Enjoy unique opportunities meeting the Icelandic wildlife by booking this combination of horseback riding and whale watching. This tour should not be missed by any looking to fill their days in Iceland with beautiful animals and adventure. You will start the day with a pick-up in ReykjavÃk; a friendly guide will drive you from the capital to the hot-spring town of Hveragerði, approximately forty minutes away. Here, you will find the stables, meet your guides, and gear up. Icelandic horses are wonderful creatures to befriend and ride. They are unique from other breeds as they have had over a thousand years of evolutionary isolation, making them smaller, sturdier, friendlier, more intelligent and more curious than other breeds. For up to two hours you will enjoy their company as they ride you through incredibly serene surroundings. You will witness lava fields and scenic meadows, with views of the sea and the mountains, and, if conditions allow, you will cross the river Varmá. Following your horseback ride, you will have lunch at the stables before being driven back to ReykjavÃk, to the Old Harbour. Here, you will board the waiting vessel, which has a large, indoor saloon, several outdoor viewing platforms, a cafe at which you can buy refreshments, and educational exhibits. You will then set out into the beautiful Faxaflói Bay, an expanse of water surrounded by dramatic features, such as the Reykjanes Peninsula and Mount Esjan, and bountiful with life. The most frequently seen species here are White-Beaked Dolphins, Minke Whales and Harbour Porpoises, as well as Humpbacks in the summer. Over twenty different species frequent the area, however, so no two tours are the same. A wealth of birdlife is also seen, which in summer includes puffins; you might spot a seal, or, on rare occasions, maybe even a basking shark or soaring eagle. You will search for these beautiful animals for approximately three hours, as guides tell you about each species and the surrounding nature. If in the unlikely event you don't see a whale, dolphin or porpoise, you will be able to take another tour for free until you do. Don’t miss out on this adventurous day with Iceland’s most beloved animals. Check availability by choosing a date.
