Eldhraun Holiday Homes and Cottages is just 13.5 miles ( 22 kilometers ) off the Ring Road in Iceland’s southern region. Although this area is close to the southern coast, the real appeal is near the village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur. This is the village you pass on the way to the cottages.

Hills and waterfalls surround Kirkjubaejarklaustur. The closest waterfall is the spectacular Systrafoss, just one mile (1.4 kilometers) away. This is also called Sister falls. Its two waterfalls are side-by-side and appear to be parallel channels of water. They look even better when they are frozen in the winter. Above the waterfalls is Systerrvatn lake, which feeds the falls. This is an excellent day trip from Eldhraun Holiday Homes and Cottages.

Systrastapi rock (Sisters’ Rock) is a short mile (1.3 kilometer) hike from Systrafoss. The hike to this huge historic rock and basalt column waterfall called Raudurfoss makes the day complete.

Stjornarfoss waterfall, a 1.2-kilometer hike from central Kirkjubaejarklaustur, is a hidden waterfall but no less beautiful than Systrafoss. Stjornarfoss is another double waterfall but much different. Its two-tiered waterfall creates a lower profile. And you will pass the eroded basalt columns of Kirkjugolf during this day hike. Keep in mind both Stjornarfoss and Systrafoss are accessed from the village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur, 13.5 miles (22 kilometers) from Eldhraun Holiday Homes and Cottages.

Eldhraun Holiday Homes and Cottages (also known as Eldhraun Cottages) is a collection of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and eight-bedroom cottages. The largest cottage will sleep 16 people. The cottages are quite large with wooden interiors and high, vaulted ceilings.

No matter what size you choose, the cottages all include a flat-screen TV and dining table in the living room. Free Wi-Fi is included. Each cottage has a bathroom and shower. A private hot tub is included at each cottage. Barbeque facilities and outdoor dining are an added attraction.

The cottages at Eldhraun Holiday Homes and Cottages will sleep four people in the one-bedroom cottage, eight people in the three-bedroom cottage, and 16 people in the eight-bedroom cottage. Extra beds and bunks are supplied.
