คำอธิบาย
Hotel Edda Akureyri is a summer-only hotel perched near the shores of the Eyjafjörður fjord in the second-largest city in Iceland. It’s fuss-free, basic accommodations perfect for those looking to enjoy the midnight sun near the city center.
Location & Nearby
Hotel Edda Akureyri is located in Akureyri, North Iceland’s main city. The city is a 5-hour drive from Reykjavik along the Golden Circle and the gateway to the waterfalls and attractions in the north (Hrisey Island Bird Sanctuary, for example). From the hotel, it's a 10-minute walk to the city center (just three minutes if you drive). The hotel is on the southern side of the town next to the Akureyri Botanical Garden, which is free to visitors and home to a delightful little cafe. One block away is the Sundlaug Swimming Pool, which is a great place for families and friends to gather in its geothermal pools, hot tubs, and large water slides. Another block away are the Akureyrarkirkja church and Modern Art Museum, the former boasting a similar architectural style to Reykavik's famous Hallgrimskirkja church and offers a lovely panoramic view of the city from the top of its staircase. The Modern Art Museum is a great place to check out work by local artists and even bring some home with you. Other popular activities include whale watching, which departs from the port near the Holf Cultural and Conference Centre. For fishing enthusiasts, opportunities nearby boast some of Iceland's best for salmon, trout, and deep-sea fishing. Southwest of the city is the winter ski resort Hlioarfjall, whose ski lift is also available in summer to lift you up to enthralling mountain views (you can hike up as well). You can also find great hiking in Kjarnaskogur and Vaglaskogur woodlands, and Lake Myvatn is a one-hour drive away.
Facilities & Amenities
The hotel is the student accommodation at Akureyri Junior College and is rented out during the summer, which explains the dormitory-style rooms. That does mean that rooms are not equipped with TV or fridge but they provide plenty of storage spaces. Each bed has a reading light, and a desk and chair. Some of the rooms have en-suite bathrooms, otherwise, you'll find a sink in the room with shared bathrooms in the hallway along with a fully equipped kitchen.vRooms range from a queen, single, triple, plus triple, twin, single, and plus double/twin, suitable for families and solo travelers alike. There is a small cafe in the lobby with two pool tables, a stereo, and a piano in the communal lounge. An outdoor terrace with plenty of seating is a great place for socializing with other guests, too. There are no elevators, so be sure to request a room on the lower floors if you have heavy luggage. Free parking is included but breakfast is at extra charge with a choice of buffet or continental.
