Description

Discover one of the world’s most unique dive sites with this spectacular 6-hour dive tour from Reykjavik. Certified divers who want to swim between the tectonic plates in the world’s clearest waters should book this tour now.

Your thrilling excursion begins in Reykjavik. A friendly driver will pick you up and take you to the Silfra fissure in Thingvellir National Park, the site for today’s dive.

Thingvellir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of three Golden Circle attractions. Its geological significance is one of its famed aspects.

Thingvellir is on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are gradually moving apart. Therefore, today, you’ll swim between the continents, a fascinating experience like no other.

This tour is for certified divers with dry suit experience. You will wear a dry suit to keep you warm in Silfra’s chilly waters, so you must have documented experience to show you know how to use one safely.

When you arrive at the Silfra fissure, your guide will give you a safety briefing and all the necessary equipment. They’ll explain the park rules, diving procedures, signs, signals, and the route. They will also review dry suit instructions with you, ensuring you’re confident and ready for your adventure.

With a ratio of one guide per three participants, the small group size ensures a safe and high-quality excursion.

When everyone is ready, you’ll descend a few steps into the crystal-clear waters of the Silfra fissure. The guide will lead you onto a large metal platform where you will pause to acclimatize to the water’s temperature.

Silfra’s water generally remains at a constant temperature of 35.6-39.2 F (2-4 C) year-round. However, it can sometimes be a little lower during winter.

Silfra’s water comes from the Langjokull glacier. It’s so pure that you can drink it! Enjoy a refreshing taste while standing on the platform before you enter the fissure’s intriguing underwater world.

Silfra has four sections, and today, you’ll explore all of them. You’ll dive in varying depths to a maximum of 59 feet (18 meters) per the park’s regulations.

First, explore the long and narrow Silfra Deep Crack before entering the slightly wider Silfra Hall. Enjoy the mesmerizing feeling of drifting with the gentle current for a relaxed experience.

Next, you’ll enter the Silfra Cathedral, the dive’s deepest point, before finishing in the Silfra Lagoon. The lagoon is stunning with its vibrant hues of blue and turquoise and magnificent rocky terrain.

After your once-in-a-lifetime dive, you’ll exit the water, take off your fins, and warm up with a short walk back to the car park.

When you have removed your gear, the guide will give you cookies and hot chocolate for the perfect finish to your memorable excursion. Afterward, your driver will drop you back in Reykjavik, where the trip ends.

Don’t miss this exciting 6-hour guided diving tour of the Silfra fissure for experienced divers, including transfers from Reykjavik. Check availability now by choosing a date.
