Hotel South Coast
Hotel South Coast is a fantastic base for those exploring Iceland’s magnificent southern attractions, located in the heart of the geothermal town of Selfoss. Its spacious, beautifully furnished rooms, as well as its spa facilities, make it a wonderful place to stay for travellers looking to make the most out of the surrounding nature opportunities.
Location & Nearby
Hotel South Coast is right in the centre of Selfoss, a town renowned for its proximity to the country’s most famous sites and its geothermal activity. There is a swimming pool nearby, as well as some interesting greenhouses you can visit, powered by the volcanic forces churning here. Furthermore, the town has gas stations, grocery stores and other services necessary for travellers.
Arguably the two best sightseeing routes in the country are the Golden Circle and the South Coast, and both are easy to drive to from Hotel South Coast. The former boasts the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Thingvellir National Park, the glacial waterfall of Gullfoss, and the exploding hot springs at Geysir; all three of these sites take between just 40 minutes and an hour to reach.
The first site of the South Coast you will reach from the hotel is the waterfall you can walk behind, Seljalandsfoss, just under an hour away. From here, you can continue to sites such as Skogafoss falls, the glacier tongue of Solheimajokull, the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, and even up to the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.
Though the advantage of Hotel South Coast is that it is located in a small Icelandic town, Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, is only a fifty-minute drive away.
Facilities & Amenities
Hotel South Coast has three types of room, although the main difference between them is simply the size; the standard double rooms are 24 square metres, whereas the triple and deluxe double rooms are more spacious 34 square metres and come with a sofa bed. Otherwise, all have an en suite bathroom, a flat-screen TV, a safety box, a hairdryer, and access to free and fast Wifi.
Furthermore, all are excellently soundproofed so that you aren’t disturbed by the other guests or bustle of the town.
Hotel South Coast also boasts a relaxation centre, where the town’s geothermal energy is harnessed into two tubs and a Finnish sauna. There is also a cold tub and relaxation area where you can unwind with a drink. The admission is very reasonable, and even more so for guests.
Guests are offered a continental breakfast, and lunch and dinner can be pre-booked; furthermore, all are welcome to enjoy a cocktail at the lobby.
Business travellers will be grateful for the modern meeting room, which has a 65” television, a flipchart, and space for 25 guests.
