Day's gradually getting shorter in Reykholt. The sky beautifully reddish and purple, when the sun rises and when the sun goes down. The weather in the South West of Iceland has been great. In November day after day +8 degrees Celcious or even more, no snow and driving quite safe for all vehicles, summer road conditions all around the South West Borgarfjörður!
Many great things are about to happen in our area 2015 - 2016; A new luxurious hotel in Húsafell, Medival baths in Hvítársíða ( on the way to Hraunfossar / Lava waterfalls), the Ice cave being constructed at Langjökull and new facilities at Deildartunguhver ( amazing hot spring nearby), these are just a few samples of what will be happening in our area during the next two years ! Live is certainly blooming all around us in Borgarfjörður.
Although there are few visitors at this time of the year at the "guest reception" in Snorrastofa, as it usually is in November, that does not at all means that there is nothing happening here and we are not open. During winter Snorrastofa is open all weekdays from 10 to 17 oclock. Take advantage of the extreme mild November weather with perfect road conditions, and take a day trip outside the capital to visit us at Snorrastofa, on the way you could visit Deildartunguhver and Hraunfossar, and before returning to the city, visit the Settlement Center in Borgarnes for food and further entertainment.
Next Saturday ( 22.th of November) there will be held a Christmas Market at the nearby farm, Nes ( 2,5km from Reykholt). The market opens at 13 o´clock and until 17 hours. There will be a varity of local goods for saile, both handcraft and food from local producers. All are welcome to visit and to taste the true countryside Icelandic Christmas spirit.

My name is Sigrun Guttormsdóttir Þormar. I live inBorgarfjord west Iceland, where I work as a project leader at the cultural medieval center Snorrastofa in Reykholt. For those that don't know, Reykholt was the home of Snorri Sturluson, medieval writer and poet whom lived in Reykholt from 1206 to 1241. He was the author of the Edda, Heimskringla (History of the kings of Norway) and Egils Saga Skallagrimsson. For me Snorri is the most amazing employer whom I proudly serve and constantly present in my every day life! He is absolutely still going strong at 835 years of age. Please come and visit us at www.snorrastofa.is. We are open all weekdays during the winter and all days during summer. We have an exhibition about Snorri Sturluson and offer lectures for groups. Hope to see you soon :)
