Skogafoss as a Photography Location

Skogafoss might be the most iconic waterfall in Iceland, but not the most visited. It has been used in several movies such as The secret life of Walter Mitty and The Huntsman: Winter’s war. Following the main road around Iceland you can’t miss it. It’s located approximately midway between Seljalandsfoss and Vik in Myrdal.

It’s beautifully located between two cliffs, with a stairway leading to the top on the eastern side. This makes the waterfall very approachable, where you can find compositions from the ground both from afar and close-up, from half-way up and from the top.

Skogafoss is probably a part of every landscape photographers portfolio if they’ve visited this location. It’s very photogenic in all kinds of weather. Even in broad daylight you can get some amazing shots here with rainbows since it’s pointing south - I have yet to experience that!

I recommend you both bring a wide-angle lens and a telezoom for Skogafoss. The composition and perspective changes drastically based on the focal length you use.
