We've got balls to challenge any fairy
With the first Wildfjords trail set to start tomorrow, we wanted to tempt you with a few of our sweet toothed treats and relay our excitement for the coming adventure. First up are Mr Crockett’s delicious spirulina protein balls, made with the finest raw ingredients, and which, when shown to a native Icelander received the comment, ‘what’s this, you expect to survive on this? Are you going to sprinkle them with fairy dust?! They’re actually packed full of the most wholesome and energising ingredients.
We’ve also managed to make water boil using fire in a treeless landscape using a Kelly Kettle and a few strands of last year’s dead grass. Here’s trail leader Tanja Geis give it a good ol’ blow to keep the fire alight.
The horses we plan to have carry our food have also had a few experimental treks, some of those treks have remained imagined whilst we climb and try to find a route up 35 degree snow covered slopes and others more practical like the time we walked and stopped at a stream to let them drink and finally eat the grass they were hankering so desperately after. Here’s Dan Crockett and myself leading them astray.
Food planning has, to be honest, been totally fraught but hopefully completely worth it. I reckon we could survive on the snacks alone! Clif Bar have kindly sponsored our first trail and we’ve a selection of delicious energy bars, gel shots and shot bloks from them to keep us supple and strong. Whilst checking a few routes this week we supplemented a meal with Lady Smock – a member of the cabbage family with a cress-like flavour, wild angelica and dandelion petals.
The recent weather has been hot and clear but looks like we are in for a low pressure system to herald the start of the trail. Low pressure is something we certainly aim to achieve in all our daily activities and what we hope others we experience walking with us. Come rain or shine, wind or waves, we’re ready, and really excited to welcome the first Wildfjords guests in just under 24 hrs.
