I had been travelling for 5 days in the Westfjords of Iceland and had by now reached Ísafjörður - the capital city of the Westfjords. I was wondering what to do and see here, and checked out the tours available at Borea Adventures. They had several tours to choose from, amongst them a selection of kayaking tours.  I had wanted to try kayaking for the longest time, as I had seen it become an increasingly popular sport in Iceland. This was my first time kayaking, so I opted for calm-water paddling in the fjord by Ísafjörður, often called Iceland's kayaking centre. After joining several whale-watching tours in Iceland, I have become an avid whale watcher. So when I was travelling in the Westfjords Region of Iceland and heard about a new whale-watching tour in Hólmavík, I jumped at the chance of seeing some whales. We were staying in Bjarnarfjörður for the night, and one of the hotel guests had joined a whale-watching tour of Láki Tours earlier that same day. She told us about the tour and couldn't hold her excitement - on this tour, a humpback whale had put on a half-hour "show" right in front of the whale watching boat! And it even breached (jumped)

On a lovely summer day in July, I visited the largest seabird cliff in Iceland, Látrabjarg in the Westfjords of Iceland, which is one of the best places to photograph a puffin in Iceland. This cute bird has almost become the icon of Iceland, as it is ever so photogenic. To enjoy my visit to the fullest, I stayed overnight in the vicinity at Hotel Breiðavík, the westernmost hotel in Europe, just 12 km from Látrabjarg cliff. Whale watching is a popular pastime in Iceland, and since Iceland is an island, we don't have to go far to see the whales. I joined a tour with Reykjavík Sailors, departing from Reykjavík harbour. Seeing that I am always writing about the Vikings and the Sagas, I could not give a new show a miss - the Saga Musica - where the Icelandic Sagas are beautifully portrayed in songs by very talented musicians.   The auteur and the producer of the show are well known in the Icelandic Music and Culture scene - Valgeir Guðjónsson and his wife Ásta Kristrún Ragnarsdóttir. I want to dedicate this 200th travel blog of mine here on Guide to Iceland to a very remote valley in the beautiful Westfjords of Iceland- the birthplace of my maternal grandmother, Kristbjörg Guðmundsdóttir.   This remote valley, called Ingjaldssandur, is located in the Önundarfjörður fjord. To reach Ingjaldssandur, we drive on the northern side of Dýrafjörður fjord, pass Núpur, drive into Gerðhamradalur valley and up on Sandsheiði heath, on a narrow, winding gravel road, and down into Brekkudalur.
