The hotel is located 29 miles (47 kilometers) southeast of Reykjavik in the small South Iceland town of Hverageroi; it's 0.6 miles (one kilometer) from the center along the River Varma. While there isn’t much to do in Hverageroi, they do have a free museum, the LA Art Museum, which showcases modern art by Icelandic artists. The Frost and Fire Hotels lies in the hills of Reykjadalu Valley surrounded by geothermal plumes, which makes for an otherworldly sight. These natural hot springs feed the water in the hotel’s pool and hot tubs. You can also hike further up to the Grensdalur Volcano in the north. Grensdalur is a small volcanic system that is the oldest in the Hengill area with many fumaroles, hot springs, and geysers. If you are not interested in hiking, you can take a swing at the Gufudalsvollur Golf course or learn the in's and out's of geothermal energy at the Geothermal Energy Exhibition. The most attractive part of the Frost and Fire Hotel is their outdoor pool and the two hot tubs. All of them are fed by the geothermal water of the area, suitable to swim year-round. The pool is 40 feet (12 meters) long, great for swimming laps. The hot tubs are perched by the riverside with a spectacular view whether in the winter snow or under the summer midnight sun. The hotel also boasts a Nordic-style sauna, complete with black stone and wooden benches for relaxing after a day’s adventures. The hotel rooms are also furnished in Nordic style, decorated with Icelandic artists’ work and hardwood floors. Some have views of the River Varma, Mount Reykjadalu, and the nearby hot springs and are more spacious than most. Guests are encouraged to try boiling their own eggs in the hot springs as well. If you're a foodie, their newly reopened Restaurant Reykr is a hot spot for fine dining. The restaurant only uses organic and locally sourced produce like smoked trout, free-range Icelandic hens, and geothermal greenhouse produce. The hotel offers a map that includes great trails for running, hiking, and biking in the surrounding geothermal hills.
