Have you seen this woman?

We need your help! A young Icelandic girl, Birna, has been missing since Saturday morning at 5am. The entire Icelandic population is puzzled and worried about her whereabouts. Were you out on the town on Friday night and did you possibly talk to her, have any knowledge of where she went or see who she talked to? Birna Brjánsdóttir is a 20 year old woman that's 170 cm tall (5'5"), around 70 kg and has long light auburn hair. She's born in 1996. She was dressed in black jeans, light gray jumper, black fleece jacket with a hood and Dr Marten's shoes. If you have ANY information about her, ple

Kopar Seafood Restaurant in Reykjavík

I'm a big foodie and I've decided to start reviewing the restaurants in Reykjavík, starting with the oh-so-delicious Kopar restaurant by the Reykjavík harbour. On a cold winter night in January I had a table booked at Kopar restaurant, a place I had never been to before but heard great things about. After battling a bit of a snowstorm whilst walking there I was really happy from the moment I stepped into Kopar and was greeted by the warmth and a friendly waiter, Jónmundur, that became our waiter for the rest of the evening. Guide to Iceland's Population

People often laugh at how small the Icelandic population is - but the Icelandic population is rapidly growing. How Many People Live in Iceland? At the time of writing (at 3pm on the 31st of December 2016) the human population of Iceland is only a mere 332,992 people. Just under 333,000 people. That doesn't sound like a lot. In fact, Guide to Iceland's facebook page has just outnumbered the Icelandic population in facebook likes, with 333,117 likes as of now - not a bad way to end the year! :) But although 332,992 people doesn't sound like much in population terms, Iceland's population is

Things to do during STORMS in Iceland!

'Tis the season... for stormy weather in Iceland.  Winter season in Iceland can be absolutely stunning, with cool and crisp sunny days, gorgeous northern light displays at night or fluffy soft snow gently enveloping everything in a white blanket. ... And on other days there are crazy snowstorms. Or regular storms (not including snow). The option of having snow, or rain, included in the storm depends on how bad of a mood the weather gods are in. Find out more about the weather and seasons in Iceland here Rainy storm in Reykjavík. Picture by Vilhelm/Vísir Now, you shouldn't disrespect s

Hey Americans, do you want to move to Iceland?

I have a funny feeling there are a lot of American people that want to leave the USA in the upcoming days. In case a massive surge of women, minorities (and men) are looking to move abroad, then here are some tips on how to move to Iceland. I also get asked a lot about how people can move to Iceland, so it's about time I write a little bit about it. There's information here about moving to Iceland for everyone, but in the light of recent events in the USA I've directed this post to people that aren't too happy about the presidential elections. First up, you need to know some basics about t

See the supermoon in Iceland!

See the biggest supermoon for the past 70 years in Iceland in mid-november 2016! Supermoons are actually a rather frequent thing to happen, there are even supermoons happening in October, November and December of 2016! And if you're a fan of nature, space and photography, you shouldn't miss out on seeing this phenomenon in Iceland. Read more about photography in Iceland here Picture by Örn Óskarsson So if you're not in Iceland in mid-november, you can try your luck again around Christmas time as the following one takes place on the 14th of December (peaking just after midnight). And dur

What are Icelandic Women Like?

Icelandic women and Icelandic girls are awesome. I know I'm pretty biased since I am one myself, but the rest of the world seems to be taking notice of this too. I quite often get asked this question: What are Icelandic women like? People around the world have often heard about the strong and independent Icelandic women. Quite often they've also heard about the sexy and beautiful Icelandic women - there always seems to be quite a large number of foreign men that just hear the words 'beautiful Icelandic women', which they automatically translate to 'sexy Icelandic women' but don't seem to l

Is Miss Iceland too fat?

Icelandic feminists have found a new, very unlikely, role model: Miss Iceland 2015. Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir was told she was too fat to take part in a beauty pageant, but she didn't cave in and go on a diet, break down and develop anorexia or tell the pageant organisers to go to hell - she just politely but firmly decided to stand up for herself - and sent a strong message to the objectifying, beauty obsessed world we live in today. Beauty pageants have been criticised for years all over the world, and Iceland is no exception to that. Iceland was mostly famous for ‘having the most beautiful wom

Public breastfeeding is normal in Iceland!

Breastfeeding in public is not a big deal in Iceland. Turns out, other countries think it is a big deal. Yesterday an MP in Iceland, Unnur Brá Konráðsdóttir, gave a speech at the Althingi Parliament. Another MP was giving statements on a bill that she put forward to which she had to respond. So obviously, she got up and responded. It just so happens that when she had to get up to respond, her daughter, who's six weeks old, was feeding. So she took her daughter along to the podium and breastfed her whilst addressing the parliament on live TV. Breastfeeding babies is one of the most natura
