The Hlid Cottages are on the Diamond Circle route of North Iceland, the most popular tourist trail in this part of the country. Despite that, it is tucked off the beaten track, allowing you to enjoy tranquility in the untouched landscapes and accessibility to the famous sites.

Lake Myvatn is the most central attraction on this sightseeing route and is just a short walk to the south. The most powerful waterfall in Europe, the unforgettable Dettifoss, is only 43 miles (70 kilometers) away. Fans of the Alien franchise will recognize this site from the Prometheus movie, which it was chosen for due to its starkness and dramatic beauty. Only 52 miles (82 kilometers) from the cottages is Asbyrgi Canyon, a hiking paradise with enormous cliffs and bountiful forests.

The Capital of North Iceland, where you can find abundant cultural attractions, tour services, and traveler amenities such as shops and restaurants, is just 53 miles (83 kilometers) away.
