Ólafsvík Town and the Bridal Veil Bæjarfoss Falls on Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Ólafsvík is a lovely little fishing town on the north side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula with a population of some 1,100 people.   As in every town and village in Iceland, you will find a museum here in Ólafsvík, a folk museum located in an old, preserved storehouse, dating back to 1844.  Top photo: Ólafsvík town as seen from the view-dial Ólafsvíkurkirkja church Joined together the neighbouring villages Hellissandur, Rif, and the town Ólafsvík are called Snæfellsbær municipality.  Ólafsvík or the Cove of Ólafur is named after the settler of this area, Ólafur belgur. The Historical Ingjaldshóll on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in West Iceland

Ingjaldshóll on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in West Iceland is one of the historical sites in Iceland - a former settlement manor and an assembly, and important officials lived here. This travel-blog is a side-blog to my 5-part travel-blog series of the beautiful Snæfellsnes peninsula. Ingjaldshóll was in the possession of the powerful and wealthy Sturlunga Clan for a while, but they controlled this part of Iceland during the 12th and 13th centuries. The Historical Laugarbrekka on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and Guðríður Þorbjarnardóttir

Laugarbrekka is a well-known stop on the south side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in West Iceland, and here the half-troll half-man and Protector of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, Bárður Snæfellsás, settled and built his farm. Bárður lived at Laugarbrekka until he disappeared into Snæfellsjökull glacier after the incident at Rauðfeldsgjá, which I told you about in my travel-blog about Bárður. In this travel-blog I am going to tell you about this mad person who murdered around 9-18 people, that we know of, especially wanderers and people travelling in the vicinity of his farm, Öxl, on the south side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in West Iceland. Unleash your Inner Viking Warrior with a Professional Viking Portrait in Reykjavík

Over the years I have written many travel-blogs on Viking-related activities in Iceland as those of you, who read my travel-blog, know - I love my Viking ancestry and am always on the look-out for Viking-related locations and activities to show you in Iceland. And guess what, in my own city, Reykjavík, I found a professional studio off Laugavegur, our main shopping street downtown, which specializes in Viking portraits. I think this is a great souvenir to take back home from Iceland, maybe the best - a unique, professional Viking portrait of yourself - alone - or with your friends and famil

Árhver/Vellir in West-Iceland - Have you ever seen a Hot Spring in the Middle of a River?

In the middle of Reykjadalsá river in the beautiful Borgarfjörður in West-Iceland, you will see steam coming from a river.  It looks almost like a whale had found its way into the river and were blowing in the middle of the river.   This geological feature is a hot spring which goes by 4 names Árhver, Vellir, Vellindishver and Vellineshver hot spring. I am going to use the name Árhver in my travel-blog as I find it kind of cute - it literally means the hot spring in the river :) Árhver hot spring Árhver, which has been called Iceland's most peculiar hot spring, consists of some 6 vents

The Mystical Sorcerer's Cottage in Bjarnarfjörður in the Westfjords Region - Kotbýli kuklarans

In the remote Strandir area in the Westfjords Region of Iceland, the mystical Kotbýli kuklarans - the Sorcerer's Cottage awaits you. It represents both the habitation and living conditions of a sorcerer, but also the normal living conditions of tenant farmers in the 17th century.   In my travel-blog about the Museum of Icelandic Witchcraft and Sorcery in Hólmavík village, I told you about my visit to the sorcery museum.   In this travel-blog I am going to tell you about the Sorcerer's Cottage at Klúka in Bjarnarfjörður at Strandir - the home of the Sorcerer himself...
