Iceland’s unique landscape includes a number of spectacular waterfalls, all of which are incredibly popular amongst visitors looking to witness something extraordinary. As well as this, Husavik on the east coast is widely recognised as one of the finest whale watching areas in the world. This tour begins in the northern city of Akureyri, before heading east past three waterfalls, the legendary Dettifoss, and its neighbours Selfoss and Hafragilsfoss. Next is a stop in Husavik for a breathtaking whale watching experience, before heading back to Akureyri via a trip to the nature baths in Myvatn.

Day 1  - Arrive in Akureyri

Make the most of Akureyri, the city fondly known as north Iceland’s capital. Enjoy some seafood in one of the many fantastic restaurants, visit the beautiful church or take a day trip to see the otherworldly, Martian landscape and mud pools in the Namafjall Hverir thermal area.

Day 2 - Akureyri to Dettifoss to Husavik

Day two sees you embarking on an epic adventure towards Europe’s most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss, and the nearby Hafragilsfoss. The 100m wide Dettifoss crashes down from a height of almost 50m, making it a truly wondrous natural spectacle. Hafragilsfoss and Selfoss are equally worth seeing, and make this one of the finest areas in the world for waterfall enthusiasts. Finish the day in the seaside town of Husavik.

Day 3 - Husavikto Myvatn Nature Baths back to Akureyri

Husavik is widely considered to be the whale watching capital of the world. Clearly then, your day should begin with a trip out onto the water, where you will almost certainly see several of the impressive marine mammals which live in Icelandic waters. For a great educational experience on dry land, head to the Husavik whale museum, and for those wanting to explore the surrounding area, popular tours of the nearby lava fields are available on horseback. After leaving Husavik, head back toward Akureyri via the Jarðböðin á Mývatni, an incredible, outdoor thermal pool where you can watch the sunset.
