Breiðdalsvík is a tiny hamlet in East Iceland, within the incredible valley of Breiðdalur.

With a population of just around 140 people, Breiðdalsvík encapsulates small-town Icelandic life. Many popular hikes lead away from the settlement, such as through the Jórvíkurskógur Forest and around the fjords of the east. It is also a great location to look out for wild reindeer.

Within the old co-op in Breiðalsvík, you will find a geological and heritage museum. Here, the works and lives of writer Stefán Einarsson and volcanologist Dr George P. Walker are on display.
