What are Icelandic Women Like?

Icelandic women and Icelandic girls are awesome. I know I'm pretty biased since I am one myself, but the rest of the world seems to be taking notice of this too. I quite often get asked this question: What are Icelandic women like? People around the world have often heard about the strong and independent Icelandic women. Quite often they've also heard about the sexy and beautiful Icelandic women - there always seems to be quite a large number of foreign men that just hear the words 'beautiful Icelandic women', which they automatically translate to 'sexy Icelandic women' but don't seem to

Is Miss Iceland too fat?

Icelandic feminists have found a new, very unlikely, role model: Miss Iceland 2015. Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir was told she was too fat to take part in a beauty pageant, but she didn't cave in and go on a diet, break down and develop anorexia or tell the pageant organisers to go to hell - she just politely but firmly decided to stand up for herself - and sent a strong message to the objectifying, beauty obsessed world we live in today. Beauty pageants have been criticised for years all over the world, and Iceland is no exception to that. Iceland was mostly famous for ‘having the most beautiful wo

Public breastfeeding is normal in Iceland!

Breastfeeding in public is not a big deal in Iceland. Turns out, other countries think it is a big deal. Yesterday an MP in Iceland, Unnur Brá Konráðsdóttir, gave a speech at the Althingi Parliament. Another MP was giving statements on a bill that she put forward to which she had to respond. So obviously, she got up and responded. It just so happens that when she had to get up to respond, her daughter, who's six weeks old, was feeding. So she took her daughter along to the podium and breastfed her whilst addressing the parliament on live TV. Breastfeeding babies is one of the most natur

Bubbleball: A great group activity in Reykjavík!

If you're planning a bachelor or bachelorette party in Iceland, I can tell you the best option to book for it: Bubble Ball. It's also a great option for a group of friends, even if no-one is getting married ;) About a week ago I went to a Hen-Do (bachelorette party) for a friend of mine (we call them Geese Parties for women in Iceland, and Stag Parties for the men). My friend actually got married a year ago, but it was a secret and only the closest family members were present (and they didn't even know about it!) Her closest friends decided however to still have a hen-do for her and we d

Striptease in Reykjavík!

If you're coming to Iceland in search of seeing some women taking their clothes off in a strip-joint, you'll be sorely disappointed. However, you can catch a play about an Icelandic stripper at Tjarnarbíó theatre from the 24th of August until the 16th of September 2016. Photo credit above by Steve Lorenz Stripteases have been illegal in Iceland since 2010, but the show 'STRIPP' tells the story of an Icelandic actress who worked as a stripper for a few months in Berlin to raise money to pay off a debt. The play is co-authored between Olga Sonja Thorarensen (and based on her own true story
