Thríhyrningur reseguide
Þríhyrningur (‘Three Peaks Mountain’) is a mountain found in Katla Geopark, in the south-west corner of Iceland. Þríhyrningur is approximately 18 km away from the small town of Hvolsvöllur in Southern Iceland.

Its name derives from the three distinct pinnacles that give the mountain its shape, the highest of which summits at 678 m. The mountain is a popular stop-off for hikers, with trails beginning at the Katrínargil and Tómagil gorges. Hikers should expect a 2-3 journey to the summit and back.

Njál’s Saga
Between the three peaks of Þríhyrningur lies a valley known as Flosadalur, named after Flosi, a character from Svínafell in the famous Njál’s Saga.
From your vantage point at the mountain’s summit, you’ll be able to look out over the entirety of landscape that this great work of literature takes place. This is just one of the many facts that make this mountain such a feature of cultural, historical and aesthetic importance to the Icelandic people.
