Iceland From Above
Last summer I traveled a lot outside Reykjavik, especially to South Iceland. I can confirm to you that jeep excursions are great fun whatever the weather is. A Snowmobile ride on Langjökull glacier and hiking around Landmannalaugar was also a lot of fun.
But I could not have imagined how beautiful Iceland could be at the exact same locations from above the ground.
Flying over Iceland is strongly recommended for everybody and not only photographers or filmmakers.
If you want to see Iceland from air you can choose between airplane and helicopter services. Sightseeing on an airplane is cheaper but with a helicopter you can land almost anywhere; on a glacier, volcano or at a geothermal area.
Helicopter Sightseeing Trip
I chose to fly over Iceland on a Helicopter because helicopters look more serious and masculine. The tour was also for free and i´m a modest man.
Lovely and dear Sóla from Norðurflug Helicopter Service was so kind to invite me on a 3-hour flight from Reykjavik to Eyjafjallajökull Glacier-volcano and back. They were very lovely and if you contact me I can probably help you get the helicopter flights cheaper.
Our flight plan was to fly over lava fields, Hengill volcano, Nesjavellir geothermal area, South Iceland farmland, the cater Kerið, Markarfljot valley and to land on Eyjafjallajökull glacier-volcano.
The only downturn was we couldn´t land on Eyjafjallajökull because of the weather and air sickness of a little boy on board (not me, I am a big boy).
Other than that the flight was incredible and it was really fun to take pictures on the helicopter. I also shot a video on a smartphone and shared it immediately to social networks.
Here are some non-professional aerial pictures I took on this tour. Iceland is huge and very beautiful from the air.
Our helicopter AS 350 B2 Ecureuil. This is popular model of Eurocopter. It can carry up to 5 passengers on board and reaches the speed up to 230 km/h.
