The Ghost Skeljungur and Bóla in Bólugil - Folklore from North Iceland
In this travel-blog I want to tell you why a gorge with a row of beautiful cascades in Skagafjörður in North Iceland is called Bólugil ravine. And also why a peculiar rock close by is called Skeljungssteinn rock. These stories, which are supposed to have taken place around the settlement of Iceland, are told in Icelandic folklore. On my travels around Iceland through the years I have visited all the remaining turf houses in my country, but these few remaining turf houses are Iceland's architectural heritage. In this travel-blog I want to introduce you to the half-troll Ármann in Mt. Ármannsfell in South Iceland. Ármann was related to Bárður Snæfellsás, the protector of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, about whom I have written a special travel-blog. Kerið crater and Nykurinn - the Water-kelpie in South Iceland
Kerið in Grímsnes is quite an impressive lake-filled oval-shaped volcanic crater, formed in a volcanic eruption some 6,500 years ago. Folklore is connected to the lake in the crater which tells us about a water kelpie living in the lake. I have written many a travel-blog about the Golden Circle, which is the most popular day tour in Iceland, visited by the majority of our foreign guests. A magical Winter Visit to the Secret Lagoon at Flúðir in South Iceland
Iceland can be magical in the wintertime when the low angle of the winter sun lights up the surroundings. On a very cold winter day in the darkest month of the year, I visited Gamla laugin - the Secret Lagoon in South Iceland.
