The Holmatindur mountain is part of the "Five Peaks of Fjardabyggd," along with Kistuffell, Godaborg, Svartafjall, and Hadegisfjall. If you want to conquer all five, you can pick up a blank hiking card from the Travel Club of the Eastfjords.

On each peak, you'll find a stamp and a guestbook. Once you have all five stamps on your card, you can receive the title of "Fjarðabyggð Mountain Hiker" from the Travel Club. Your photo will appear on their website, and you will receive a trophy.

How to Travel to Holmatindur Mountain

To travel to Holmatindur mountain, visitors typically start their journey by visiting the town of Eskifjordur, as it provides the best views. On the other side of the mountain, you can also stay in Reydarfjordur.

The best way to reach Eskifjordur or Reydarfjordur is by rental car, with travelers driving along the Ring Road or Route 1 from Reykjavik towards the east. It's best to visit in summer, as you can rent an affordable car. In winter, you'll have to rent a 4x4 vehicle to travel in the region.

Reykjavik is about a 9-hour drive from the Holmatindur mountain. From Eskifjordur and Reydarfjordur, the trailhead to Holmatindur mountain is a short drive away.
