Located west of the river Jökulsá á Dal, and north of the great dam Karahnjúkur, it is a site that very few know of due to its remoteness. Even so, it can be accessed in a four-wheel-drive in summer and has a special appeal to visitors who want to immerse themselves in nature far from the crowds.
Within the Laugarvalladalur valley, there is a heated waterfall, which can be used as somewhat of a natural shower. Be careful before getting in, however; the temperature of the water here is not monitored, so can sometimes be too hot to enter.
