Guesthouse Hóll

Guesthouse Holl is a stylish five-room guesthouse occupying a historic stately house dating to 1908. Located in Vestmannaeyjar, the biggest settlement in the South Iceland archipelago known as the Westman Islands, it's a fantastic location for foodies. Located a paltry 7-minute walk from the Herjolfur Ferry Terminal on Heimaey Island, Guesthouse Holl awaits in the heart of Vestmannaeyjar. A long list of excellent food options are easily reached on foot. For breakfast, Vigtin Bakhus does freshly-baked breads, excellent coffee and the island's best sweet bread just 3-minute's walk from Holl. Brothers Brewery, a craft brewery doing award-winning lagers, double IPAs, red ales and Skyr sours, is next door. You'll also find gourmet burgers (ETA), Italian (Pitsugerdin) and health organic fare (Gott) in the neighborhood, among others.

Attractions in Vestmannaeyjar are nearby as well. The Sagnheimar Natural history museum, the Sea Life Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary and Saeheimar Aquarium, and a public swimming pool, are easily reached on foot. The Eldheimar Volcano Museum, which chronicles the the devastating 1973 eruption of Eldfell volcano, is 0.6 mile (one kilometer) away. It's also possible to walk up to the Eldfell crater, where this catastrophic volcano erupted, a further 1.6 miles (2.7 kilometer) away. The Vestmannaeyja Golf Club, which is one mile (1.7 kilometers) southwest. Vikin Beach, at the bottom of the island, is an easy 2.9 mile (4.8 kilometer) drive.

Attractions further afield on Heimaey Island include numerous boat tours from May to September to view puffins (there are more puffins here and throughout the Westman Islands than anywhere else in the world). Orcas and Fin Whales make appearances, too! You can also see them from land at windswept Storhofdi. This 'Great Cape,' on the southern side of Heimaey, is located 3.7miles (six kilometers) south of Holl. Several hiking paths are found on the five square mile (13 square kilometer) island as well.

The Vestmannaeyjar Airport is 1.4 miles (2.4 kilometers) south of the guesthouse.

Facilities & Amenities

Guesthouse Holl has five rooms/apartments. Two rooms (No 4 and 5) have a private bathroom and three rooms (No 1, 2 and 3) have access to a shared bathroom. The two apartments and one of the rooms are on the second floor. Rooms feature double beds with memory foam mattresses and flat-screen TVs. Some rooms are quite small at just 96 square feet (nine square meters) so be sure to request ahead if you need more space. Nespresso machines, hot water kettles, mountain and harbor views, in-room sinks, and sofa beds are just a few of the amenities that vary by room. TV antennas can be installed for viewing public television channels as well. In addition to Wi-Fi, guest who book for at least two nights receive a portable pocket Wi-Fi from trawire.com for use through their entire trip in Iceland. There is free on-site parking.
