Location of the Hvammsvik Hot Springs

The Hvammsvik Retreat and Hot Springs are 40 miles (54.7 kilometers) northeast of Reykjavik, on the shore of Hvalfjordur. This location translates to the ‘whale fjord,’ and though it is not renowned for its whales, it is home to many birds and seals.

Hvammsvik is also close to the Golden Circle, Iceland’s most popular sightseeing route. The legendary Thingvellir National Park is 25.2 miles (40.5 kilometers) southeast, from which you can continue onto the Geysir geothermal area and the Gullfoss waterfall.
