This route is well-known for being much more adventurous than the standard routes into these areas; it crosses rivers, is surrounded by lunar landscapes, and is pretty bumpy. While a two-wheel-drive should never be taken down here, a super jeep can allow you to enjoy the journey safely.
Off-road driving is completely illegal in Iceland, but Landmannaleið is a road where this does not matter, due to its remoteness and uninterrupted surrounding nature.
