The Ice Bucket List: 10 Great Reasons To Visit Iceland
Iceland seems to have made it to everybody’s, and their mothers’, bucket list. And for good reason. Conveniently located between Europe and the US more and more people now stop by, rather than just fly over. The country has also become extremely popular with Hollywood film makers who've come to here to film blockbusters like Tom Cruise's 'Oblivion', 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty', 'Promotheus' and Noah, starring Russel Crowe. - So - what’s the attraction?
1. THE EASE
It only takes three hours to fly to Iceland from many major airports in Europe and less than six hours from the East Coast of the U.S.
2. THE PEOPLE
Iceland are the friendliest people in the world, according to a new report by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as voted for by foreign visitors to the country.
3. THE LIGHT
Whether it’s the Northern Lights in winter or the Midnight Sun in summer make sure you experience at least one (preferrably both), before you leave this earth!

And midnight sun in the city centre
4. THE MUSIC
If creative talent were measured per capita Iceland would probably top the list . With music from artists like Björk, Of Monsters & Men, Sigurrós , Gus Gus and the amazing Harpa Concert Hall (pictured) you’re in for a treat.
5. THE WATER
When in Iceland make sure you visit at least one outdoor geothermal pool, found in every town, one natural pool which are dotted around the country and of course no visit is complete without experiencing the Blue Lagoon!
6. THE WATER (2)
Water gets two entries! The second one is “water for viewing pleasure”. Iceland is surrounded by the ocean, a quarter of the country is covered by glaciers and hot water boils underneath it. This translates to impressive sea-scapes, magnificent glacial rivers and boiling hot-springs. Ta-dah!
7. THE HARMONY
Iceland is a vast country and only about 1% is inhabited. Imagine driving half an hour out of the capitol city, stopping your car, stepping out and experiencing that feeling ofhaving the world to yourself, being humbled by Mother Nature, rathern than human achievement. There’s nothing quite like it.
8. THE EQUALITY
Iceland has a good track-record when it comes to matters of equality. While far from perfect LGBTQI tourists will feel safe in a country where up to 100.000 people (that’s 1/3 of the population!) comes out to celebrate Reykjavik Pride!
9. THE NIGHTLIFE
Reykjavik is famous for its nightlife. All the noteworthy bars and clubs are located in the downtown “101” area. While LGBTQI travellers will be safe going in to most of them most will head for KIKI, the only gay bar in the village. Also look out for the amazing Pink Parties hosted by local travel & events experts Pink Iceland.
It’s really, really good. Try the Fishmarket, we recommend the monkfish.
