Yesterday after Iceland secured its place in the round of 8 in the European Championships, a street party erupted in Reykjavík! Iceland 2, Austria 1. It's official, Iceland is through to the round of 16 in the European Championship 2016. I'm writing this in a state of elation and incredulity - Iceland scored the first goal and by half-time the score was 1-0. Austria scored in the second half and the score was 1-1 until THE VERY LAST SECOND OF THE GAME! That's when Iceland managed to score another goal, so the final outcome was 2-1. Everyone is talking about EURO 2016 in Iceland. That includes people that dislike football. Tomorrow Iceland plays its last game in Group F, against Austria. I'm pretty excited about this summer. There's one (main) reason: I'm moving back to Iceland! But also, there are so many exciting and fun things going on in Iceland! The Panama papers are the biggest data leak in history! HUGE protest about to take place in Iceland today! Iceland's prime minister, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, failed to declare a stake in an offshore company and is (understandably) getting a lot of heat as a result of the Panama Papers - which are the biggest data leak in history. Anyone that’s familiar with the Northern Lights knows that they can only be seen when it is dark outside and the sky is clear. Although the Northern Lights appear all year round, they can never be seen during summertime (except in late August), due to the bright summer nights and the stunning midnight sun.
