Sudurnamur Mountain sits in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Highlands of Iceland, specifically within the Landmannalaugar region.
The remoteness of the vast Highlands is key to its magic. But that also means that the terrain can get pretty rough, with the roads often unpaved. If you’re planning to drive, consider renting a 4x4 in Iceland built to take on a variety of terrain.
Keep in mind that the roads to Landmannalaugar are only accessible during the summer months, usually from June to September, depending on snow conditions. Before setting off, always check road.is for the latest updates. Furthermore, please note that from June 20 to September 15 each year, parking reservations are required for visitors arriving at Landmannalaugar between 8:00 and 15:00.
Once you arrive at Landmannalaugar, the way to Sudurnamur Mountain is pretty straightforward. The hike begins at the Landmannalaugar campground, and the trail to the summit is fairly easy to follow.
