See stunning waterfalls and otherworldly crater lakes before taking a dip in a naturally heated pool. This tour shouldn’t be missed by anyone wanting to experience the best of Icelandic nature while travelling in comfort and style.

Landmannalaugar is a vast area of unique beauty, located in the heart of Iceland’s southern highlands. Nestled between the jet-black Laugahraun lava field, Landmannalaugar is made up of windswept rhyolite mountains, a type of volcanic rock that creates a full spectrum of dazzling colour on the mountainside.

Your adventure starts in Reykjavík, where you will be picked up in the morning by a super jeep. This large and luxurious vehicle is specially built to go off the beaten track, to areas not accessible by normal buses, so you will get an exclusive and unique experience as you traverse the highlands of Iceland.

Your first stop of the day will be in Þjórsárdalur valley where you find Hjálparfoss waterfall. Situated in the lava field north of the stratovolcano Hekla, this is a twin cascade where two streams from the river Fossá, merge in the basin of the waterfall.

Travelling from the beautiful waterfall, you’ll stop at two scenic lakes before you reach Landmannalaugar. The first lake is Ljótipollur, a crater lake with high edges in an unbelievable shade of red that contrast the azure blue water. The second is Frostaðavatn lake, a wide and beautiful lake popular among photographers around the world.

The rhyolite mountains at Landmannalaugar appear in shades of red, pink, green and golden yellow, bestowing an otherworldly feel upon the whole area. You will get a chance to hike up one of the area’s many hiking trails before taking a dip in the naturally heated geothermal pool and relax after a day of travelling.

Before you head back to the city, you will make a quick stop in Dómadalur valley where you will find the waterfall, Þjófafoss. You will be thankful for the superjeep as it is one of the few vehicles that can easily access the route to this gorgeous waterfall. You will also visit the magnificent volcano Hekla, one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to travel the geothermal and volcanic landscapes of Iceland’s highlands. See areas not visited by many on this exclusive superjeep tour. Check availability by choosing a date.

Absolutely stunning trip in a super awesome car. We got to visit the active Hekla volcano lava field, a couple of cool waterfalls, went on a 3 hour stunning hike and relaxed in a natural geothermal bath. It's like the perfect condensed trip for short visits. The driver was helpful and well informed. Highly recommended. Bring water, snacks and lunch with you. Swimming suit of course too. Enjoy.

Great experience with stunning views all the time. We were lucky to have a clear sky so we could see really far. It was a small group and there weren't yet many hikers, which made it even more special. Valthor was a very good guide.

My best friend and I had a wonderful day on this small-group tour. Valthor was a terrific driver and guide, and he knew just where to stop for the best views. We were often the only people around, and it was wonderful to get off the beaten path compared to the crowds of the Golden Circle. The 2.5-hour hike was breathtaking. (There were more people in that area, but that is to be expected, and it was never a problem.) The painted hills of the highlands did not disappoint, and we got very lucky with the weather as the sun came out. The jeep was very comfortable, and it was fun to splash through streams and bounce around. The day flew by since the drive was so scenic. This was our favourite thing we did in our week in Iceland. We ended up taking the Northern Lights tour through Gravel Travel as well, and it was great. We had Thor for that tour, and he was very fun and found a perfect spot to view the lights. It's nice to support a small local business as opposed to Grayline or other big corporations. Thanks to Valthor and Thor for being such wonderful guides. We highly recommend Gravel Travel!

This tour operated by Gravel Travel was awesome! Our guide was Ragnar and he made our super Jeep experience in the highlands so enjoyable, without us having to worry about driving the terrain ourselves. Our group was only 7 people which allowed him to make plenty of unscheduled “7-minute stops” for us to take photos and to point out unique things along the drive to Landmannalaugar. We got so lucky with a sunny day so the colors and views on our 1.5 hour hike with Ragnar were breathtaking. The hike was more moderate than easy which was actually great because it kept the hike interesting. Afterwards, We had enough time to do another hike or hit the geothermal pool. The only snag was the jeep’s License plate must’ve fallen off at some point and the cops happened to be patrolling the park that day so we had to wait for another truck to be brought from Reykjavik 2 hours away in order to drive back. But Ragnar made the best of it and led us on another hike into a canyon along the rocky river bed and steaming water, which was a totally different experience in a Landmannalaugar. I would absolutely recommend this company for a much smaller and personal tour if you want to experience the highlands without worrying about driving the F-roads yourself!

Fantastic, absolutely unreal views, great colors. Thor was the best - perfectly adjusted, not intrusive, very nice and helpful.

Awesome. All I'll add to what others have said about Thor is that he does a great job of allowing different guests to hike different routes--different people from our group stayed at the base camp, went on a short hike with him, took a slightly longer loop, and even climbed a mountain on a longer trail. Very accessible way to get a taste of the Highlands.

Simply fabulous. Words can't describe the beauty of this landscape, so I won't even try. The tour was well organised and Mr. Thor is one of the highlight of the trip. He is full of fun facts, great stories and overall a perfect guide. Highly recommended.

Such an adventurous tour! We loved exploring the mountains--the scenery was incredible. Loved the hike and the geothermal pool. Valthor was great company and with his expert driving we were able to see areas otherwise inaccessible. He is full of fun facts. What a great day exploring the many breathtaking scenes of Iceland! Our kids loved the bumpy super jeep ride and driving through the waters.

We had a great experience in this tour with our driver and tourist guide Fin. The scene of Landmannalaugar is completely different comparing to the South Coast. It is like the surface of another planet. Some of the places can only be reached with super jeep and professional guide. Our car was broken on half way, but this didn't affect our tour at all. Fin is very professional and he found us other cars to take us to the waterfall. When we came back, the company sent us another super jeep to continue the tour. When we hiked through a creek, Fin built a bridge with the stones and even my parents enjoyed the half hour hiking a lot!
