Fishing is allowed throughout the lake, but anglers must obtain a valid fishing permit. It's also essential to adhere to regulations governing daily catch limits and fish size. 

For those seeking additional angling opportunities, the Vatnsa river, fed by Heidarvatn lake, promises fantastic fishing prospects. However, separate permission is necessary to fish in the river, with its season running from mid-July to mid-October.
