Mount Esja Hiking And Outdoor Area
After I posted my blog about the Fimmvörðuháls pass quite many have been asking if its possible to hike there during winter. The answer is no so I've been thinking what I could recommend instead for nature and outdoor lovers that really want to do some hiking while here. After a little bit of thinking then Mt. Esja crossed my mind so I'm gonna do a little writing about Esjan. If you are staying in Reykjavík then Mt. Esja often called Esjan is a great option for hikers. First of all the mountain is a short while from Reykjavík city only 20 km to the North and the access to it is very easy.
Discover Lóndrangar - the Rocky Castle in Snæfellsnes
Because we don’t have any castles in Iceland, mother nature decided to make one for us. Seeing from a distance, Lóndrangar looks like a huge castle reaching out to the sea. Lóndrangar are uniquely formed basalt volcanic dykes sticking out from the ocean and are the remains of a crater, which has been eroded to its present form by the sea. Lóndrangar consists of two pillars or stacks, one of 75m and the other one of 61m. They are located on the southern part of Snæfellsnes peninsula in west Iceland. If you are surfing around Snæfellsnes, you won't miss those majestic sea stacks. They are re
Old Akranes Lighthouse - One of the Most Picturesque Lighthouses in the World
See Akranes on the west coast of Iceland If you are into photography or just interested in exploring new things in Iceland I would like to show you a place that you might find attractive. If you love lighthouses and or abandoned subjects I would recommend a trip or a little detour to Akranes, a town in the west part of Iceland. Either you could take a trip there from Reykjavík or if you are heading North or West you could take a little detour to this little village. Akranes is a port town on the west coast of Iceland about 45 km north of Reykjavík. It’s the ninth most populous town in
Icelandic horses - our friends
If visiting Iceland you will probably get some new cool friends as this one. When travelling around Iceland you will most definitely notice some horses on your way and probably you will see lots of them. I recommend you stop the car at least once because they are really charming and fun to connect with and always willing to mingle. As soon as they notice you they will approach you immediately. Most of the time they are behind a closed fence so they are not totally free. Our horses are very curious and sweet and are always willing to pose for you or allow you to feed them with some
Northern lights info & shooting spots near Reykjavík
Most people visiting Iceland are interested in the Northern lights and I totally understand that. It's really overwhelming to experience this wonder and breathtaking when they are visible dancing above, sometimes vibrant and multicolored. Even though I´ve experienced the auroras my whole life they always fascinates me and I never get bored looking up in the sky admiring them. Its better to view them where light pollution is little and best where there is none. Sometimes Northern lights are visible in the city though but I want to give you some tips where you could view them more effect
Waterfalls and home of dwarfs & elves
Don't miss Stjórnarfoss waterfall, Foss á Síðu and Dverghamrar rocks while in the south coast of Iceland. I want to mention two beautiful spots on the south coast that many people pass by. I know there are so many places on the south coast to explore and discover and of course you can´t see it all but still I want to share those. If you have plenty of time then I recommend this stop. Stjórnarfoss waterfall The first spot is a very spectacular waterfall called Stjórnarfoss. When you are driving direction east it can´t be seen from the main road even though it’s a short while from the so c

The Fimmvörðuháls Hiking Trail | Photos and Tips
Hiking between two glaciers and a volcano I have talked to many return tourists and travelers to Iceland. They have been to Iceland several times and want to do something different. Most have driven around the island and seen all the most famous waterfalls and attractions. If you are in this position or simply love hiking, then read on. :) I'm gonna walk you through a very exciting hiking route in the highlands called "Fimmvörðuháls", which is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the country and a great destination for people into photography. The route The Fimmvörðuháls (five-ca
The Abandoned DC Plane on Sólheimasandur
Do you like science fiction movies and want be in one (almost) ? If yes then visit the abandoned DC plane on the black beach at Sólheimasandur. The epic plane wreck on the black beach in South Iceland In 1973 a United States Navy DC plane ran out of fuel and crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur, in the South Coast of Iceland. Fortunately, everyone in that plane survived. Later it turned out that the pilot had simply switched over to the wrong fuel tank. The remains are still on the sand very close to the sea. Go here to find the tour to the Sólheimasandur plane wreck. The scener
Exploring the Big Monster Hvítserkur in Northwest Iceland
I'm taking you to the giant monster “Hvítserkur” in Northwest Iceland. If you are driving from Reykjavík to North Iceland or vice versa, and if you have extra time, I recommend taking a detour to Hvítserkur in Vatnsnes peninsula. You could also do a day tour from Reykjavík city. The one-way drive is about 230km. There is a big signal on the main road (NO. 1) pointing to where to turn. After that, you have to drive about 25km gravel road to your destination, but this is a tour you don’t want to miss. Hvítserkur is a 15m high sea stack on the so-called Vatnsnes peninsula which also hosts a
