Secret waterfall on the South Coast
Discover the waterfall Gljúfrabúi
The great thing about travelling around Iceland are all the different and unique spots and areas you can discover when driving around.
You don't need to go far from the city to explore and enjoy amazing and beautiful places.
Iceland is known for its large number of waterfalls and even if we have countless falls they are all very unique and differ from each other. I love to discover new waterfalls because it's one of my favourite subject to shoot.
Not so long ago I discovered this magical hidden gem on the south coast of Iceland. The funny part is that it's located right next to one of the most famous waterfall in Iceland, Seljalandsfoss.
When I visited this fall for the first time it was strange because tons of people and buses were parked by the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall, but no one seemed to be interested in his brother falling right next to it.
The name of this beauty is Gljúfrabúi meaning "Canyon dweller".
To reach it you have to wade a little river so it's wise to have sturdy shoes or some boots on. Then you walk through or into the cliff and into a little cave. When inside you will experience a magical wow; an amazing waterfall and stunning light falling from above.
You can get really close to the fall almost shower in it (I don't recommend that though). It's "fairy tale" like to stand in there and at the same time calming listening to the sound of the water and get a refreshing spray in your face at the same time.
Photographing in there can be tricky because of all the spray from the water but it can be done with a few good tricks. It's a once in a lifetime experience.
If you wanna know more about the exact location or get more information don't hesitate sending me a line.
