The coffee culture in Iceland
This is only how I experience the coffee culture in Iceland so just keep that in mind while reading this, Thank you :)
---------------------------------------------
I am not a huge coffee drinker, but I do enjoy a good cup of coffee every once in a while. Last year I started working at a coffee shop in Reykjavík and it made me love the art of coffee and tea even more. But here in Iceland it isn't that big of a deal if you drink coffee or not. Every work place has its coffee machine and people just drink the coffee or they don't. But what I want to talk about is the culture of going to a coffee shop and sitting down, not only to talk to a good friend but to also enjoy a good cup of coffee.
There are two big coffee chains in Iceland, Kaffitár (where I work) and Te og kaffi (they are the biggest one I feel because they sell their coffee beans in stores, but there are a lot of other great coffee shops in downtown Reykjavík and all around the country). I mostly see the guests that come to Kaffitár and they are from the age of 15 and up. I feel like most people don't order the sweet drinks, but just the regular basic coffee, drinks and tea. The ones who want to drink coffee but aren't there yet order mocha or latte with flavour, and that is what I did.
It isn't for everybody to sit in a coffee shop because it can get a bit loud in there and like most things it just isn't for everybody. But those who do like it find their favourite coffee shop or have a few they like. I find it quite amazing how many coffee shops there are in downtown Reykjavík itself.
Please let me know if you like this idea but I kind of want to walk down Laugavegur and taste the coffee at all the coffee shops there, maybe like only try the Latte and let you know how the vibe is in the place and how the coffee was. Please let me know by sending me a message or leave a comment under the article.
