Rabbits in Iceland
Okay guys, I talked about horses the other day so to be fair I’ll talk about bunnies today.
It’s not completely random though. I have recently moved a bit out of town and I started biking to get to places (I might write a post about biking one of these days). After a couple days where I tried to figure out the best possible route, I ended up biking through a field of bunnies. Literally, a field full of bunnies!
The place is situated just ten minutes away from my current place, in the outskirts of Reykjavík by Reykjanesbraut. The place consists of a concrete house and the surrounding empty area, locked between two roads and the valley formed by the Elida River down below. Surrounding the building is a low fence which has long lost its fencing. My guess is that the rabbits that live by the forested area around the river have migrated to the house which appears to be in need of repairs.
I don’t know if anyone actually lives in this house but the other day I saw a man hammering at something by the window. Maybe the building is indeed being refurbished and the rabbit invasion will be crushed once people move back in? I don’t know, but I sure know that many people come here to see the bunnies. Almost every day I see some folks, generally famillies with young children, hanging around, gazing at the marvelous little fluff-balls!
I am quite grateful that I live near those bunnies because it means that I can come by and say hello twice a day, and even more if I want! I have to admit though, the fact that the rabbits often invite their ducks and geese friends can make for a challenging cycling experience, but it’s most definitely worth it!
In any case, I hope you liked this post and photos! Expect even more fluff in the upcoming days because I am stocked with all kinds of cute animals for you to enjoy! See ya!
