Reykjavík is a city full of exciting culture. The best way to experience all the culture Reykjavík has to offer is to be in Reykjavík during Culture Night! Culture Night in Reykjavík has been taking place for a number of years, and the theme each year is 'Come on in' or 'Gakktu í bæinn' (it could also be literally translated as 'Walk to town'). Gay Pride and Ass Kombat in Iceland this weekend!
This weekend is the oh-so-much-fun Gay Pride weekend in Iceland. All over town rainbow colours are adorning houses, buildings, offices and people. Our Guide to Iceland office went all in and changed the look of the office to coincide with the celebrations, that will reach their peak tomorrow during the Gay Pride parade that starts at 2pm from the Vodafone stadium, that's located at the bottom of Öskjuhlíð hill (the Pearl is on top of it). Sluts walk around in Reykjavík!
The annual SlutWalk in Reykjavík takes place on Saturday the 23rd of July 2016 for the sixth time. If you want to protest against rape culture and victim blaming, then join in for the SlutWalk or 'Druslugangan' walk that starts at 2pm from Hallgrímskirkja church and goes down Skólavörðustígur to Arnarhóll hill, where there will be some bands playing. Why are foreign men sending Icelandic women creepy messages?
The female staff at Guide to Iceland have been getting a lot of friend requests from foreign guys recently. I'm not so surprised, we've got a pretty talented (and good looking) team, but foreign men seem to be particularly interested in Icelandic women these days. And apparently it's mostly down to one, completely made up, article. From time to time I get some random friend requests on facebook, either from accounts that aren't real or from people that I have simply never met. Iceland's football team is back home :)
In case you were wondering how the Icelandic football team was greeted when they came back home yesterday, you can find your answer here above. After driving through downtown Reykjavík on a double decker bus, the team arrived at Arnarhóll, where most people have been watching the games, and did a little HÚ chant with the crowd. The earth trembled and the echo sounded like fireworks (I'm told by my sister, I wasn't actually there - I stopped by but then went to a bbq in the stunning sunshine - thinking I would hear the noise anyway). Iceland is out of EURO 2016, But We're Still Celebrating!
Iceland is out of the European Championship after being defeated by the host team France. Congratulations France, and congratulations Iceland on making it this far and making your country proud. At half time the score was 4-0 for France and it didn't look good for the Icelandic team, I was scared we'd get our asses whooped and sincerely hoped Iceland could get a goal or two in and wouldn't get any more goals on us from France. Fortunately Iceland got 2 goals in (the only team to score 2 goals against France in the competition!) - but unfortunately France also got one more goal in. Neverth

Iceland's Viking battlecry may help beat the French!
Iceland has a way of celebrating victory in football. Foreign media calls it Iceland's battlecry, Iceland's Viking Chant, Iceland's Viking war cry or Iceland's Clapping Chant, although in Iceland mostly people just call it HÚ. HÚ seems to be a bit of a favourite amongst the foreign nations watching the European Championships... some news channels have even accredited the chant to be the reason for Iceland's good going on the Euro 2016!
