I have shown you the wonderful Westfjords of Iceland in many of my travel-blogs, as I believe that the Westfjords will be a top destination in Iceland soon. And it seems that Lonely Planet shares my opinion as they chose the Westfjords as the top destination of 2022. Now I want to show you the two stone men, who don't go unnoticed on Kleifaheiði heath and by Penna river on the south side of the Westfjords region. In this travel-blog I am going to show you the oldest man-made road construction in Iceland of which the builders are known. The account is to be found in the old Icelandic Sagas. This old trail is called the Berserkjagata trail and leads through the Berserkjahraun lava field on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in West-Iceland. Finally, I was able to see the volcanic eruption in Mt. Fagradalsfjall on the Reykjanesskagi peninsula with my own eyes. We had booked a helicopter flight at the start of the eruption, but it wasn't until 7 weeks later that it was our turn, as the demand for a helicopter flight to the volcano was so great. The people on the long waiting list were mostly Icelanders as no tourists were coming over to Iceland due to the Covid restrictions. After 3 weeks of almost constant earthquakes, approximately 40,000 of them to be exact, which were driving us crazy here on the south-west corner of Iceland, we finally got a volcanic eruption at Geldingadalir by Mt. Fagradalsfjall on the Reykjanesskagi peninsula. Látravík and Breiðavík are well-known coves in the Westfjords of Iceland, but both of them belong to the Útvikur coves. Many people will for sure have heard about Látrabjarg, the largest seabird cliff in my country in the vicinity, which is the best place to photograph a puffin in Iceland. One of the many spectacular sights on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwest Iceland is the amazing Lambafellsklofi rift in Mt. Lambafell, which most likely dates back to the second last glacial period. It is a sight worth seeing, as here Mt. Lambafell almost got ripped in two due to dislocation or tension fractures.
