Descrizione

Guesthouse Himnasvalir bills itself as a no-frills guesthouse in North Iceland. Surrounded by mountains and the bucolic countryside of Iceland's interior, it's a homey and isolated option for adventurers seeking to detour from the beaten path.

Location & Nearby

The guesthouse is 3.1 miles (5 kilometers) off the Ring Road in Silfrastadhir, North Iceland. It is accessed via a picturesque dirt road and overlooks a beautiful valley. There are numerous hiking opportunities straight out the front door – check with the friendly host about routes. Himnasvalir sits some 31.5 miles (51 kilometers) south of Skagafjordur, a prominent fjord in North Iceland. Skagafjordur district has some of the best rafting rivers in the country. Horse riding, cycling, and hiking are also very popular activities in the area. The small village of Varmahlid is 15.5 miles (25 kilometers) northwest of the guesthouse. Here you'll find a restaurant, a tourist information center, a shop with tourist services, and a natural history museum. Saudarkrokur is 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Himnasvalir. As the largest urban area in the Skagafjordur district, the town features a sports house, a swimming pool, and a great skiing area at Tindastoll as well. General services, such as banks, restaurants, and bars, are found in town, too. The Glambaer Farm and Museum is 21 miles (33.7 kilometers) north of the guesthouse. This renovated turf farm and timber buildings highlight 18th and 19th-century life in Iceland. Nice coffee is also served.

Guesthouse Himnasvalir is also easily accessed from Akureyri – the airport is around 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of the accommodations. Of course, as Iceland "capital of the North," Akureyri is a major city offering numerous cultural attractions, fantastic bars and restaurants, and all the big-city services countryside dwellers might need now and then.

Facilities & Amenities

The bright and spacious rooms at Guesthouse Himnasvalir have been described as "shabby chic" by guests. Single, double, triple, and quadruple rooms are available, all with shared bathrooms featuring wooden shower stalls. A substantial and rich breakfast is served and there is an on-site restaurant serving burgers, fish, and other local dishes for lunch and dinner (it apparently serves 'Mother's Recipes' so you can expect some home-cooked comfort food!). There is free parking and Wi-Fi throughout the property.

Why Choose Guesthouse Guesthouse Himnasvalir?

Guesthouse Himnasvalir is a rustic choice for a certain kind of traveler (you know who you are!). Its stunning location surrounded Iceland's picturesque interior is a major draw, as are the hiking routes available from its doorstep.
