The Pier Apartments are on the western edge of the town of Heimaey, the only settlement of the Westman Islands. You'll find grocery stores, souvenir shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes within easy walking distance. Furthermore, the incredible attractions of the island are as accessible.

Just over a mile (two kilometers) away, you can find the Sea Life Trust Beluga Sanctuary, from which you can marvel over rescued beluga whales. These gorgeous creatures are intelligent, rare, and threatened, making this a great place to witness wildlife and learn how to protect it. There are also rescued puffins you can marvel over.

If staying at the Pier Apartments between May and September, you can see wild puffins in the cliffs around the island, as the Westman Islands are the world's largest nesting area for this species. Puffin watching cruises depart from the harbor during this season.

Two miles (three kilometers) east is the Eldheimar Museum. This facility is one of Iceland's most fascinating exhibitions and documents the history of the Eldfell eruption that occurred in 1974. The volcano began in the center of the town, threatening the lives of all on the island, but due to an incredible rescue effort, only one person lost their life. Ingenuity on the part of NATO troops and local rescuers protected the harbor from the lava flow, and the community was rebuilt after the fires eased.

The Eldfell volcano sits just behind this attraction and is fantastic to hike. From its crater, you can marvel over incredible panoramas and the consequences of the dramatic event here.

Other attractions on the Westman Islands include the Helgafell mountain, the bizarrely shaped elephant rock, and the breathtaking lighthouse of Urdaviti.

It is possible to reach the Westman Islands by ferry or domestic flight. Throughout the year, the ferry departs from the town Landeyarhofn, 85 miles (137 kilometers) east of Reykjavik. You can bring your rental car onto the vessel, allowing you to drive around Heimaey. Flights depart regularly from Reykjavik's Domestic Airport, close to the capital's downtown area.

The Pier Apartments are 1,615 square feet (150 square meters), and both accommodate seven guests over a double, twin, and triple bedroom. Each room has a television with access to Netflix. The suites have large kitchens for self-catering, bathrooms with showers, living rooms with comfortable seating areas and additional TVs, and balconies overlooking the harbor. Wifi is complimentary throughout the building.
