Description
The Saga Apartments are a set of suites with balconies in the heart of Akureyri in North Iceland. Couples and families looking for a beautifully furnished, central home-away-from-home will find their location and facilities exemplary.
Location and Nearby
The Saga Apartments are located in the center of Akureyri, the largest town in North Iceland. This settlement has more people than any outside of Reykjavik, and its services reflect that. You'll find shops, restaurants, banks, and post offices within easy walking distance, and the domestic airport is only two miles (four kilometers) south.
Furthermore, you can stroll to many nearby cultural attractions, such as the spectacular harbor, the botanical garden, and architectural marvels like the Akureyrarkirkja church and the Hof concert hall.
Many tour companies base their operations in Akureyri, who can pick you up from the apartments or nearby area. This region's activities include river rafting, horseback riding, sightseeing, highland hikes in summer, and northern lights trips in winter. You can also embark on whale and puffin-watching excursions from the harbor.
For those driving themselves, you'll find the Saga Apartments an excellent base for exploring the Diamond Circle sightseeing route and the fjord of Eyjafjordur. The Diamond Circle boasts a range of spectacular natural marvels, such as Godafoss waterfall, Lake Myvatn, Asbyri Canyon, and Dettifoss waterfall.
Godafoss is the nearest, only 22 miles (35 kilometers) away, and Lake Myvatn is a further 28 miles (45 kilometers) from there. Lake Myvatn is famous for more than its waters. It is also home to geothermal areas like Namaskard Pass, geological marvels such as Dimmuborgir, and the luxurious Myvatn Nature Baths.
Asbyrgi and Dettifoss are slightly further away. Asbyrgi, a horseshoe-shaped canyon with some magnificent hiking trails, is 86 miles (138 kilometers) from the Saga Apartments. Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, is 94 miles (151 kilometers) away.
In terms of the sites of the Eyjafjordur fjord, the furthest of significance is the beautiful village of Siglufjordur, 47 miles (76 kilometers) north. En route to this attraction, you can stop at hidden gems such as the Bjobodin Beer Spa and the whale watching port of Hauganes.
