Perfectly positioned between the Eastfords and North Iceland, the Ekra Cottages are a fantastic base for Ring Road travelers. The capital of the former region, Egilsstadir, is only half an hour to the south. From there, it is easy to reach sites such as Lake Lagarfjlot, Hallormsstadaskogar forest, and fjords such as the spectacular Seysdisdjordur. Notably, the cottages are just an hour from Borgardjordur Eystri, one of the country's most mystical and beautiful corners.

In terms of the attractions of the North, Asbyrgi Canyon and Dettifoss waterfall can both be accessed in less than 2.5 hours.

To get groceries, gas, and a range of other services, Egilsstadir is most recommended due to its size compared to other local settlements. However, you'll find basic services at the hamlet of Kirjubaer, less than ten minutes away.

Each of the Ekra Cottages is a two-bedroom log cabin, with one double bedroom and one bedroom with a normal and bunk bed. Though the decor is traditional, with wood paneling and an air of simplicity, the features are all very modern; the kitchens and bathrooms are fully furnished, free and fast Wifi is provided for all guests, and flat-screen televisions in the living areas.

All the cottages also boast an outdoor patio area; these are perfect for looking out for the Northern Lights in winter due to their remoteness. During summer, you can use the barbecue facilities for cooking up a meal under the Midnight Sun!
