Skaftafell is a haven for glacier hikers, with several ice caps surrounding it. Meanwhile, Fjadrargljufur’s towering cliffs and abundant flora appear as if it is from a fantasy novel, while Reynisfjara is renowned for its unique geology.

The closest major settlement of the east, Djupivogur, is 64 miles (103 kilometers) away. This town is known for its public works of art, abundant birdlife, coastal views, and environmentally conscious way of life. From here, you can head to attractions such as the country’s largest forest of Hallormstadaskogar, its tallest free-standing mountain, Snaefell, and the third-tallest waterfall, Hengifoss.

You can also embark on the incredible coastal routes of the Eastfjords with ease.
