Summary
Description
Managisting Guesthouse is a comfortable, affordable choice of accommodation in Isafjordur, the largest town in the Westfjords. Travelers on a budget exploring this region's untouched, primordial landscapes will find it a modern, welcoming base.
Location and Nearby
Managisting Guesthouse is located in Isafjordur, the capital of the Westfjords and one of the most far-flung settlements in Iceland. Within this small town, you'll find all the services that travelers could need, such as groceries, restaurants, post offices, and information centers. Most tour operators in the region start their excursions here, allowing you to plumb the beautiful depths of the Westfjords on a range of adventures.
You can also arrange a wealth of boat trips from the harbor and even plan multi-day excursions to Hornstrandir, the remotest part of the country. This abandoned region has some of Iceland's most incredible scenery and abundant wildlife, making it a must-see for hikers and photographers.
It is easy to plan days out from the Managisting Guesthouse due to its proximity to a range of magnificent attractions. The village of Bolungarvik is particularly close, only eight miles (13 kilometers) away. The views here are spectacular, and the settlement is steeped in a legend surrounding a battling wizard and witch. The Arctic Fox Center, where you can learn about and meet these elusive creatures, is just 13 miles (21 kilometers) away.
The most famous waterfall in the region, Dynjandi, is also an easy drive from the guesthouse. It is 33 miles (53 kilometers) to the south. Standing at 330 feet (100 meters) tall, it cascades down a cliff face that resembles a mighty set of stairs, widening as it tumbles ever close to the base.
It is recommended to stay at the Managisting Guesthouse during a long journey around the Westfjords due to the sparse region's abundant attractions. While in the area, you should also be sure to see the longest birdwatching cliff in Europe, Latrabjarg. There is no better place in the world to get close to wild Atlantic Puffins in summer, and the story of a shipwreck on the shores below is fascinating and inspiring.
The Sorcerer's Cottage and Museum of Witchcraft and Sorcery in Holmavik is another fantastic attraction. So is the Drangajokull Glacier, the only ice cap in the country growing in size. A visit to the beautiful Raudasandur beach is another excellent experience.
While traveling the Westfjords from the Managisting Guesthouse, look out for wildlife. Seals and seabirds are abundant, and it is common to see whales in the fjords and arctic foxes in the undergrowth.
