Hestakrain Guesthouse is located on a stunning horse farm, surrounded by rural bliss and mountains, with views over Hekla volcano. In spite of its location off the beaten track, amenities for travellers such as shops and gas stations can be found at the towns of Fludir and Selfoss, which are 15 and 25 minutes away respectively. The former is home to the magical Secret Lagoon, whereas the latter is renowned for its geothermal greenhouses.
This location makes Hestakrain Guesthouse a great base from which to explore Iceland’s top two sightseeing routes, the Golden Circle and South Coast.
The closest site of the Golden Circle, the Geysir Geothermal Area, can be reached in 45 minutes, from which you can explore Gullfoss waterfall and Thingvellir National Park. Driving for 55 minutes in the opposite direction, meanwhile, will bring you to Seljalandsfoss waterfall, from which other South Coast attractions are within easy reach.

All ten of the bedrooms at Hestakrain Guesthouse are spacious and comfortable, boast televisions and free Wifi, and have en suite bathrooms. Each can sleep two people, either in twin beds or a double bed set-up. All staying at Hestakrain have access to the communal kitchen, which like much of the rest of the guesthouse is styled like a rustic, country home.
There is also a communal hot tub on the patio outside, overlooking the beautiful surrounding nature. Furthermore, there is an excellent restaurant which serves a range of locally sourced, traditionally Icelandic dishes.
