Summary
Description
Farmhouse Lodge sits beside the Ring Road in Skeiðflöt, a ten-minute drive west of Vík í Mýrdal and roughly halfway between Reykjavík and Jökulsárlón. With rooms in two newly renovated guesthouse buildings, summer glamping tents, a self-catering kitchen, free parking and EV charging, and wide-open views of Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, it's a quiet, well-equipped base for exploring Iceland's South Coast.
Location & Nearby
The lodge stands directly on Route 1, Iceland's Ring Road, about ten minutes west of the village of Vík. The setting is rural and quiet, with sweeping farmland views and almost no light pollution, but the South Coast's headline sights are all within easy reach.
Dyrhólaey, the dramatic basalt promontory and one of the country's best-known puffin nesting grounds in summer, is about 10 kilometres (roughly 15 minutes) away. Reynisfjara black sand beach with its Reynisdrangar sea stacks sits 16 kilometres east. Sólheimajökull glacier and Skógafoss waterfall are 17 to 20 kilometres west, around 20 minutes by car. Seljalandsfoss waterfall is roughly 45 minutes further west, and the Skógar Folk Museum lies on the way.
Heading east, you can reach Skaftafell and the edges of Vatnajökull National Park in about two hours, and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in roughly two and a half. Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano that grounded European air traffic in 2010, is visible from the property on a clear day.
The dark, open skies make Farmhouse Lodge a strong base for northern lights viewing between September and April. In summer, the midnight sun keeps the farmland lit through the night.
Facilities & Amenities
Farmhouse Lodge offers three styles of accommodation. The Lodge, the original guesthouse renovated in 2015, has single, double and triple rooms with either private or shared bathrooms. The Cowhouse, renovated in 2022, holds four spacious rooms with private bathrooms and modern furnishings. From late June through September, twelve canvas glamping tents for two or four guests are pitched on the property, with access to the Barn common area.
Every room has comfortable beds, soundproofing, free fast WiFi, a flat-screen TV, fresh towels and linens, a hair dryer and toiletries. Many rooms look out across the farmland towards the sea or the surrounding volcanoes.
Shared spaces include a fully equipped guest kitchen, a lounge with seating areas and a small book corner, a garden and outdoor terrace with BBQ facilities, and table tennis and darts. Reception is open daily from 8:00 to 22:00, and self-check-in is available outside those hours.
A continental breakfast buffet is served daily from 8:00 to 10:00 for an additional 2,500 ISK per person, with freshly baked bread and croissants, yoghurt, fruit, smoothies, baked beans, scrambled eggs and bacon. The lobby bar stocks Icelandic beers, wines, gin, rum, cognac and whiskey alongside soft drinks. Free coffee and tea are available throughout the day in the common areas and the rooms.
Practical extras include 40 free private parking spaces for cars and buses, an EV charging point (3,000 ISK for 4–7 hours), afternoon laundry service, wheelchair-accessible rooms, and bicycles guests can borrow to ride to nearby attractions. Pets are welcome on request, though additional charges may apply.
