Commission links are special urls which direct your readers to products on Guide to Iceland’s website. If the people you refer to Guide to Iceland purchase a service; e.g. car rental, tour or hotel, you get a commission paid into your bank account.
When you send these links to travelers or place them on your blog, website or social media page, you can track how many users click them.
Claim your tracking links now and start spreading them around so you can start monetizing your blogs about Iceland. Follow the steps outlined below to start earning revenue from the tourism industry in Iceland.
Step 1: Set Up Your Account
If you don’t already have a blog on Guide to Iceland’s Connect With Locals page you can create one here.
If you are a travel blogger who wants to become an affiliate and get commission links for your personal blog, you can send an email to info@guidetoiceland.is with a short description of yourself and your site, your travel dates, and how you'd want to collaborate with us.
Step 2: Get Your Commission Links
Once you’ve set up and logged into your account, you can see a “$” sign on the product pages - tours, car rental, accommodation - of the Guide to Iceland website, as shown below:

When you click on the “$” sign, you will see a pop-up window with a link:

The link in the pop-up box is your commission link to this specific page. You can copy the link in the pop-up box by clicking on it and paste it into your blog or send it to someone you’re advising about their trip to Iceland.
Our system tracks the users who use your commission link. Once they click on your link, any sales from that particular user in the next 7 days will be credited to your commission account. Your commission is 5% from tours, 3% from car rentals and 2% from accommodation.
Step 3: Spread The Links Around
Here are some tips on how to use the links to make money:
Add the links to any Iceland related content on your blog, website or social media pages to entice people to click on your commission links.
Only use the links when you are redirecting to products or articles which are relevant to your content. While it’s good to have the links everywhere, the users are more likely to click on links which are useful to them. For example, if you have a blog about the northern lights in Iceland use links to northern light tours.
Answer any questions users send you through your blog. Our numbers show that the quicker you answer, the more likely you are to generate sales with your answers.
Be specific. We have a large number of products on our website. If the product you link to fits exactly what they were looking for they are more likely to make a booking. For example, if you are writing about or being asked about car rentals, you can open the car rental page and get your commission link for that page.If they are looking for self-drive tours, you can direct them to our self-drive tour listings. Better yet, if you know how many days they intend to stay in Iceland, give them more specific packages. Always try to make it one step closer to the final booking.
Be engaging, friendly and helpful. To make sales, we often need to do more than throw tour links around. Information that helps people learn about Iceland and their upcoming trip is more likely to result in sales. In addition to creating helpful content on your own, utilize the content on our website. You can point people to articles on our website, while giving them tours with your commission link.
Be familiar with the website. Take some time to browse around our website, and explore the tours and articles that we have. The more familiar you are with the website, the easier it is for you to put relevant and useful links into your content.
Step 4: Track Your Sales
To track your sales, log in to your account. Click on your profile photo on the upper right corner of the website, then click “Admin”. You will see the interface below:

On the left hand side of the screen you’ll see a menu, click “Your Bookings”. Then click “Overview” on the dropdown menu which appears. Then you’ll see a page like the one below:

There you can see your commission sales figures by month, as well as a breakdown of the individual sales below.
Step 5: Claim Your Earnings
You can then send us monthly invoices to claim your earnings. The invoice must be for a minimum of 25.000 ISK commission, or around 250 USD, for products that have been booked and serviced. Please send these invoices to billing@guidetoiceland.is and we will wire transfer you the money. Remember to include your bank details and account number if you choose the wire transfer, and your email if you choose Paypal. If you have any questions, let us know.
