As soon as you arrive at Keflavik airport and collect your bags, your private driver will be waiting to collect you from the terminal. With all your luggage taken care of, you'll head straight for the capital city of Reykjavik.
Be sure, however, to keep your eyes peeled to the windows during this short 40-minute journey to your accommodation to get your first glimpse of the rugged terrains of Iceland as you head through the otherworldly lava fields of the Reykjanes peninsula.
If you arrive early, you'll have a full day to fill with sightseeing and shopping in the capital. Alternatively, if you have a much later flight, your driver will take you straight to your hotel, where you can get some much-needed rest after a long day of traveling.
Take the time to get your bearings and explore the vibrant buildings, quirky cafes, and numerous shops, museums, and galleries dotted around the city.
After a day of traveling and exploring the city, you'll have the chance to sample a delicious Icelandic meal at one of Reykjavik's best restaurants selected from our recommendations.
You'll retire for the night at the luxurious boutique Hotel in Reykjavik to rest up for your first full day in Iceland.
Day 2 - Nordic Capital
Wake up to your first full day in Reykjavik and start the day right, with a delicious and relaxed breakfast served by your hotel.
Once you're ready, it's time to take to the streets and spend a great day in Iceland's vibrant and charming capital city.
Your private guide and driver will accompany you for the day to show you around some of the best-known and lesser-known sights of the city. You'll learn about everything from Reykjavik's history and geology to the culture and best spots in the city.
If shopping is high on your to-do list, make sure to spend some time on the bustling city center streets such as Laugavegur for a huge selection of quaint boutiques catering from clothing to crafts, luxury home decor to incredible tapestries of art.
For those looking to sample a bit more of Iceland's culture, make sure you check out some of the many galleries and museums you'll find in every corner of the city. Reykjavik has you covered, from the national museum of Iceland to quirky photography studios and modern art galleries.
After a delicious lunch, you will embark upon a helicopter ride over the city and its surroundings or venture even further to land directly on top of a glacier! The former option is about one hour long and offers excellent views of the city and a stop on top of the mountain Esja just outside of town. The latter option takes around 2 hours and will fly over the continental drift of the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates and the vast white plains of Langjokull glacier.
After a day of sightseeing, shopping, and adventure, you'll have an incredible meal at a top restaurant in town. You'll try an array of delicious local cuisine to tantalize your tastebuds fully.
You'll then retire for the evening back at your hotel in town to recuperate for your next day experiencing some of Iceland's beautiful nature.
Day 3 - The Three Gems of the Golden Circle
Day 3 of your trip will take you far out of the city to explore the world-renowned famous tourist trail of Iceland's Golden Circle.
You'll have three options to choose from for the day depending on how much time you would like to spend in the Golden Circle and how many extra activities you'd like to include.
Option 1 - Take a 7-hour Golden Circle private sightseeing tour where your guide will show you around the main attractions.
Option 2 - Take a 10-hour Golden Circle private sightseeing tour to explore the main attractions and also include the option of snorkeling in the stunning Silfra fissure between 2 continental tectonic plates.
Option 3 - Take a 10-hour Golden circle private sightseeing tour exploring the main attractions and an adrenaline-pumping snowmobile tour on top of Langjokull glacier to zoom across the snowy white tundras in some of Iceland's gloriously untouched wilderness.
No matter which option you select, you'll be in for a treat as you journey along this captivating route. Your lunch will also be included at a suitable interval along your trip.
After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, your private guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby. You'll then head straight out of the city and pass a myriad of mountain peaks and peaceful lakes on your way to the first stop at Thingvellir national park. Situated in the section between two continental tectonic plates (North American and Eurasian), the area boasts an array of sites, with numerous waterfalls, forests, and the largest natural lake in Iceland, Thingvallavatn. For history buffs, this is also a dedicated UNESCO world heritage site in honor of the world's first parliament (Althingi), founded in 930 AD.
For those of you who selected to take option 2, you'll spend extra time in this area and head over to the Silfra fissure. You'll then take a snorkeling tour within this otherworldly crystal clear fissure as you delve into the spectacular void between two continental plates, marking off an item on your bucket list few know is possible. Please note that the snorkeling tour is not private and that snorkeling participants need to be comfortable in the water and able to swim.
Next, you'll head straight to the Geysir geothermal area. Walking through this living, breathing volcanic paradise, you'll pass by bubbling steam vents, mud pots, and an array of hot springs. You'll find most people, however, standing by the towering spouting hot spring of Strokkur, which erupts boiling water up to the height of 66 ft (20 m) every 5-10 mins. You'll want to keep your finger on your camera shutter here to get the perfect capture of this incredible natural wonder.
Finally, you'll make your way about a 15-minute drive away to the mighty Gullfoss waterfall. This natural aquatic titan is fed by the meltwater of the nearby Langjokull glacier along the Hvita river, where the waters cascade down 105 ft (32 m) over two steps into the thunderous cavern beneath. Standing close to the waterfall, you'll feel the water's spray on your face, the roaring sound of the water, and if you're lucky, you may even get to see a rainbow pouring out from the sky into the top of the falls.
For those of you who selected option 3, you'll meet your snowmobile tour guide here. Once you are fully equipped and kitted out, you'll make your way to the summit of the glacier on board a gigantic vehicle well-suited to this wild terrain. Once you arrive at the summit, you'll be guided through the necessary safety information before boarding your snowmobile to zoom across this winter wonderland. Breathe in your surroundings, from the magnificent surrounding mountain peaks to the incredible valleys carved into the countryside below. This makes for one of the most iconic experiences you'll get to have in Iceland.
After your full day of exploring some of the best and bizarre natural attractions in Iceland, you'll head toward your next hotel in the Golden Circle region. You can freshen up and then head down to a lavish dinner. Take another evening of sampling some of the delicious bites synonymous with Iceland and reminisce on the incredible day you've had.
You'll then retire for the night in amongst the peace and tranquillity of Iceland's tremendous nature at the Ion Adventure Hotel or Hotel Geysir.
Day 4 - The South Coast
After waking up in the peace and tranquillity of the rural nature of the Golden Circle, you'll head downstairs for another fantastic breakfast away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Today you'll spend the day exploring the wondrous South Coast of Iceland known for its plethora of waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes, mountains, rolling hills, and black sand beaches. Much like the previous day, you will have three options based on how you'd like to customize the tour to best suit your preferences.
Option 1 - Take a 10-hour private tour of the South Coast of Iceland, visiting both Seljalandfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, Solheimajokull glacier, Reynisfjara Black sand beach, and the quaint village of Vik.
Option 2 - Take a 12-hour private tour of the South Coast of Iceland, stopping off at the best stops along the way as far as the village of Vik. You'll also get the added benefit of visiting one of Iceland's natural ice caves within the Myrdalsjokull glacier on top of the giant volcano Katla. Please note that the Katla ice cave tour is not private.
Option 3 - Take a 14-hour private tour along the South Coast of Iceland, checking out the best spots along the way, traveling as far as the crown jewel of Iceland, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. This option has the added benefit of experiencing the incredible views of Vatnajokull national park, driving through the most breathtaking of lava fields, and a chance to witness the mighty floating icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon.
Whichever option you select, you're in for one of the best road trips in Iceland due to the sheer number of incredible attractions and the uniqueness of each. Make sure to take advantage of asking your guide all of your questions, who will be happy to educate you on everything Icelandic.
After you've had breakfast, your driver will meet you in the hotel lobby before whisking you down route one and along the South Coast.
You'll first stop at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you'll be able to see for miles around on your journey up from the road. Seljalandsfoss stands proudly at 197 ft (60 m), with glacial meltwaters plummeting into the pools beneath. The unique feature of this waterfall is the ability to walk behind it during the summer months, thanks to a perfectly formed cavern that you can easily stand in and gather some dramatic photos from.
A little further along the road and you'll visit the second waterfall of your tour, Skogafoss. Standing at the same height as Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss is known well for its sheer power and ability to walk right up close, if you don't mind the powerful sprays of the waters. You can also climb the adjacent steps to the top of the falls for another unique perspective. In folklore, Skogafoss is said to be the home of a mighty treasure behind the powerful thunderous waters.
Another short drive away will take you to one of the glacier outlets of the Myrdalsjokull glacier, called Soleimajokull. Known distinctly for its darkened black twinges on an otherwise blue glacier, Solheimajokull earned this look due to the fallen ash from the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajokull volcano.
Next up on this fantastic tour is the famous Reynisfjara black sand beach. On this spectacular yet eerie volcanic location, you'll witness deep basalt caverns carved into the untouched mountainside as well as the famous Reynisdrangar basalt sea stacks standing proudly just offshore. According to local folklore, these dramatic features are two trolls who were turned to stone by the rising sunlight, having failed to find refuge when their curiosity took them out to investigate a recent shipwreck.
Not far from here, you'll stop off at the charming village of Vik. Situated right on the coast with breathtaking views all around, this is the perfect place for you to stop off for lunch for the day. After this, those who choose option one will start to head back towards your hotel in the Golden Circle.
However, for those who choose to take option 2, you'll meet your guide to visit the marvelous Katla ice cave. Once you've been kitted out with thermals and crampons and received your safety talk, you'll head straight for the glacier peak in another gargantuan off-road vehicle. Once you arrive at the ice cave, your guide will take you inside the cavern, where you will have plenty of time to explore and take numerous pictures of this unique and natural wonder. Be sure to take in the views from outside the cave overlooking the many incredible peaks of Iceland on all sides and the bays of the south coast down below. After this, you will start to head back to your hotel in the Golden Circle.
For those who choose option 3, you'll head on your way towards Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Once there, you'll have plenty of time to take in this awe-inspiring location. Watch the magnificent gigantic blue icebergs move through the lagoon and out to sea. Cross the road to the glistening Diamond Beach and walk among some washed-up icebergs onshore afterward.
After this, you'll head back along route 1, taking in another perspective of this incredible journey, before reaching your hotel in ample time to freshen up before dinner.
You'll then complete the day with a delicious meal at your hotel before resting up for the night in preparation for your next day of adventure.
Day 5 - Reykjavik or Snaefellsnes Peninsula
After an incredible day exploring Iceland's fascinating South Coast, you may be tempted to have a more relaxing day of pampering, or you may be thirsty for more exploration. With this package, you can select the best option to suit you, and we will customize your itinerary accordingly.
On today's agenda, you will have two options depending on your preference.
Option 1 - Your private driver will take you straight to the Blue Lagoon for a day of relaxation and recuperation. Bathe in the tranquil azure waters of this geothermal delight and feel your body heal after several days of travel. Opt for an extra spa treatment to make this even more indulging and reminisce on your adventures so far.
Take the day to enjoy the facilities, treatments and dine out at the in-house restaurant. The setting of the Blue Lagoon is held amid a volcanic landscape with rising steam seen for miles around. This is frequently considered the perfect way to rejuvenate during a trip to Iceland in the mineral-rich healing waters.
Option 2 - Take a private tour of the Snaefellsnes peninsula and explore this richly diverse terrain often referred to as 'Iceland in miniature.'
Heading out from your hotel, you'll head through the small town of Borgannes and straight to the beautiful coastal shores of Ytri-Tunga. Known for its indigenous seal colony, you will be able to creep quietly along the shorefront to catch a glimpse of these curiously lazy creatures.
You'll then push on to the quaint fishing towns of Hellnar and Arnarstapi. Here you can marvel at the incredible rock formations that jet out of the tall basalt cliffs as the powerful seas shape the caverns below.
Next, you'll head towards the gigantic centerpiece of the peninsula, Snaefellsjokull. This monumental glacier sits atop a now dormant volcano and was allegedly the inspiration for the 19th century Jules Verne novel, The Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Just before you near the glacier, you'll pass by the Vatnshellir lava cave. Here you can opt to take a lava cave tour and descend into this volcanic beauty. Deep within, you'll enjoy caverns rich in minerals and colors, adding an extra wonder to your day of exploring.
After this, you'll head straight to Mount Kirkjufell by the charming village of Grundarfjordur. Though this iconic mountain translates to 'Church Mountain,' nowadays it's more known as 'the mountain shaped like an arrowhead' due to its feature in the hit HBO show, Game of Thrones. Standing tall without a mountain range makes it a truly unique spectacle, which has made it the most photographed mountain in Iceland.
After a long day of traveling or a leisurely day of relaxing, you'll dine at the Blue Lagoon Lava Restaurant or Moss Restaurant and retire for the night in one of Blue Lagoon's famous hotels.
Day 6 - The Blue Lagoon
This is your last full day in Iceland, and you should make sure to spend it in your preferred way.
You have the choice of either taking a day to relax and rejuvenate in the wonderfully healing waters of the Blue Lagoon or sightseeing on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
Option 1 - Take the whole day relaxing and unwinding in the volcanic paradise of the Blue Lagoon. Pamper yourself with some additional spa treatments, and take a leisurely lunch at the fantastic on sight restaurant.
This is the perfect way to complete your trip before traveling home tomorrow. You can leave all the stresses of travel for another day and breathe in the charming and delightful atmosphere of this unique environment.
Option 2 - Visit Reyjanes Peninsula for a final time in the wild Icelandic nature. Your private driver and guide will take you to see the lesser-visited gems on the peninsula, such as the volcanic lake Kleifarvatn, the geothermal areas of Krysuvik and Gunnuhver.
After your day of relaxing or exploring, you'll get the last taste of a delightful array of meals at either of the Blue Lagoon's fantastic restaurants.
After a delicious dinner, you'll retire for the night in either the Silica Hotel or Retreat Hotel on sight, getting plenty of rest for your journey home the next day.
Day 7 - Departure
On your last day, your private driver will pick you up from the hotel lobby and take you straight to Keflavik International Airport in ample time for your flight.
If you have a flight in the evening, you may have the chance to take a final dip in the stunning Blue Lagoon.
We hope you enjoyed your luxury package and stay in Iceland and would love to welcome you back in the future.
