Description

Travel in style with this fantastic Super Jeep tour discovering the wild, captivating landscapes of Iceland of Askja Caldera and the Lake Mývatn area. This is the perfect tour opportunity for guests hoping to maximise their time in this part of the country, as well as all those who wish to make sure their tour is as personalised and intimate as possible.

Your adventure will begin from the Lake Mývatn area, where you will be introduced to your local and experienced driver/guide for the day. When everyone is ready, you will be driven into the rural interior of the Icelandic highlands where you will see dried lava fields, cascading waterfalls and towering mountain peaks.

Your morning will see you first discovering the wealth of natural beauty to be found at Herðubreiðarlindir oasis, before continuing on to the freshwater spring, Grafarlönd, and the volcanic crater, Hrossaborg. Whilst in the area, you will also pay a visit to the ruins of a hut that once belonged to the infamous outlaw, Fjalla-Eyvindur.

At Askja Caldera, you will need to hike approximately 2.5 kilometres over plains of dried magma toward the  Víti explosion crater. This should take approximately thirty minutes, which is a great time to listen up as your guide teaches you about the area.

If you're partaking in this tour during the late summer, you may also wish to go swimming in  Víti explosion crater, one of the most unusual bathing experiences around. The water at Víti measures approximately  18-22°C, making it more than comfortable, and is surrounded by a plethora of natural vistas.

When your time at Askja is over, you will make a stop at Dreki mountain station to eat your packed lunch, then move off again towards Holuhraun lava field, located directly between Vatnajökull glacier and Askja caldera. Holuhraun is Iceland's youngest lava fields, with parts still cooling to this day, providing a true insight into this country's fascinating geological makeup.

So what are you waiting for? Hurry now and you too can experience some of the most beautiful natural attractions and experiences to be found in Iceland. Check availability by choosing a date.
