Daily itinerary

Day 1
The Westfjords is renowned for its incredible landscapes and picturesque fjords.

Fly from Reykjavik to the Westfjords

Your day begins with a 40-minute domestic flight from Iceland's capital city, Reykjavík, to the small coastal village of Bíldudalur. From there, you will be greeted by your local guide and the tranquillity and fresh air of the remote Westfjords.

Hopping aboard your comfortable transportation, you will then be driven in the direction of the beautiful Arnarfjörður fjord surrounded by the Ketildalir valleys, often referred to as the 'Westfjord Alps'.

The waters here are fertile fishing grounds and you will be taken out to sea for an exciting sea angling experience. Your captain will cruise along to the best-known fishing spots; a journey which should take approximately 15 minutes.

Casting out your lines, you will bask in the beauty of the surroundings while hoping to catch a cod, haddock, halibut, or another of the local species. After an unforgettable two hours on the water, you will return to shore.

You will then head to the town Patreksfjörður which is famed for its rich fishing waters, dramatic landscapes and its proximity to some of the most beautiful attractions found not just in the Westfjords, but in the whole of Iceland.

In the evening, you will enjoy a delicious dinner at Fosshótel Patreksfjörður before retiring for the night.

Day 2
Iceland is the breeding grounds for 60% of the world's Atlantic Puffins.

The Grand West of the Westfjords

You'll start the second day of your Westfjords sightseeing tour in Patreksfjörður. In the morning, you will be treated to a guided tour of the village, providing you with a little insight into the culture and history of the area.

Once you are familiarised with Patreksfjörður, you will head out to the famous nearby tourist destination, the Látrabjarg bird cliffs.

Látrabjarg is the westernmost tip of both Iceland and Europe. These towering cliff faces are utilised as the nesting grounds for an eclectic list of seabird species, including Puffins, Guillemots, and Skuas. Thanks to the lack of hunting at Látrabjarg, it is widely considered to be the best spot in the world for photographing the Atlantic Puffin.

After some intimate time with the puffins at Látrabjarg, you will head to the stunning red sands of Rauðasandur beach. Here, you can marvel over the surrounding mountainscapes, as well as the many kaleidoscopic shades of the sand drifts. On exceptionally bright days, it is tricky to see where the water ends and the sky begins.

Your dinner and accommodation arrangements for the evening will either be in Patreksfjörður or Bíldudalur.

Day 3
The series of waterfalls known as Dynjandi are also referred to as Fjallfoss.

Southern and Central Westfjords

Today, you'll explore the southern and central sections of the Westfjords. This will include stops at the gorgeous Tálknafjörður fjord, the mysterious settlement of Selárdalur and the "Crown of the Westfjords", the Dynjandi series of waterfalls.

The series of waterfalls at Dynjandi cascades over 100-metres in total in a trapezoidal shape, measuring 30 metres across at the top in contrast to an incredible 60 metres at the bottom. It is a phenomenal sight to behold and often cited as a highlight in many peoples' experiences of the Westfjords and Iceland.

Your third day also sees you taking a more in-depth look at Bíldudalur village, as well as the charming town of Þingeyri. Once again, this is a day packed with incredible sights and sounds and unforgettable attractions.

In the evening, you will eat dinner and stay in either Hotel Sandafell in the village of Þingeyri, or at the Fisherman Village Hotel in Suðureyri.

Day 4
Travelling around the Westfjords, you will be amazed by the wealth of natural splendour on offer.

Northern Westfjords

Your fourth day of this incredible sightseeing tour sees you discovering the magical natural attractions found in the northern part of the Westfjords. This includes exploring the famed "Fisherman’s Village"; an excellent spot to learn more about the history and culture of the region.

During the day, you will also embark on a Gourmet Seafood Trail hosted by a local expert to get a fun and fresh taste for the Westfjords. You will make your way to the largest township on the Westfjords peninsula; the historical town, Ísafjörður.

If circumstances allow, your day's adventure may extend out to sea to visit the beautiful island Vigur by boat. This tiny island is famous for its enormous colony of birdlife which greatly outnumbers the permanent human population of only 5-year long residents.

You will enjoy dinner and your accommodation for the evening within the charming town of Ísafjörður.

Day 5
The Westfjords has many horses.

Fly from Isafjordur to Reykjavik

Your adventure in the Westfjords ends with a morning flight from Ísafjörður to Reykjavík. You will be driven in good time from your accommodation to the airport. If time and weather allow, it might be possible to make a quick scenic stop before you fly back down south.
