This small-group tour is perfect for first-time visitors, families, and small groups wanting to see more of Iceland in a short time. The route is carefully designed using the best local knowledge, helping you explore the country’s natural attractions, glacier landscapes, and top activities.

Your 3-day tour in Iceland starts with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Reykjavik or a designated meeting point. A Chinese-speaking guide ensures clear communication, deeper cultural insight, and a more comfortable experience.

You’ll stay for two nights in hotel accommodation near key attractions, making it easier to explore Iceland’s highlights. Each room includes private bathrooms, and breakfast on two mornings helps you start each day ready for adventure.

With a guide-to-traveler ratio of 1:19, you get the right balance of personal attention, local insight, and efficient travel.

This guided Golden Circle and South Coast tour brings together the country’s most iconic sights. Walk through Thingvellir National Park, see Strokkur erupt in the Geysir Geothermal Area, and feel the power of Gullfoss Waterfall. You’ll also stop at Bruarfoss, known as one of the bluest waterfalls in Iceland.

Along the South Coast, you’ll explore dramatic cliffs, black sand beaches, and icy landscapes. Walk along Diamond Beach, where icebergs rest on black sand, and visit Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. In Skaftafell, you’ll see glacier views shaped by Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest ice cap.

You’ll also head to Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, famous for its basalt columns and powerful waves. Stops at waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss add even more variety to your journey.

A major highlight of this 3-day itinerary in Iceland is the ice cave activity. From May to September, you’ll explore the Katla Ice Cave, one of the few natural ice caves accessible year-round. In winter (October to April), your ice caving activity will be on Vatnajokull Blue Ice Cave.

Your safety and comfort are part of the experience. A certified glacier guide leads the ice caving tour, and essential glacier equipment is included. If conditions change, the tour may move to an alternative glacier or location to ensure a safe experience.

If you’d like to explore more during your trip, you can add optional activities at an additional cost. A guided Jokulsarlon boat trip is available in summer (May to September) and lets you get closer to the floating icebergs.

If you prefer to travel light, you can rent hiking boots, a waterproof jacket, and waterproof pants when booking. These extras must be added at least 48 hours in advance, as availability is limited.

Daily itinerary

Day 1

Day 1 - The Golden Circle and South Coast Waterfalls

Your 3-day Iceland tour begins with a morning pickup in Reykjavik. You'll meet your Chinese-speaking guide and begin the journey with a scenic 27-mile (44-kilometer) drive from Reykjavik to Thingvellir National Park, passing rolling hills, farmlands, and lava fields along the way.

The Golden Circle, Iceland’s most-visited sightseeing route, which brings together some of the country’s top natural and cultural landmarks.

At Thingvellir National Park, you walk through Almannagja Gorge, the visible rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The towering basalt cliffs on either side give you a real sense of the landscape's scale.

Your small-group tour in Iceland continues to the Geysir Geothermal Area, where steam rises from the ground and hot springs bubble around you. The highlight is Strokkur, which erupts boiling water every 5 to 10 minutes.

Next, visit Gullfoss Waterfall, a roaring 32-meter (105-foot) cascade that often creates rainbows in its mist. Follow the upper path for sweeping views of the canyon, or take the staircase closer to the falls for an up-close perspective. You may get a little wet from the mist, so waterproof outerwear is recommended.

Before leaving the Golden Circle, you’ll also visit Bruarfoss Waterfall, known for its braided streams and bright blue water. Often called the bluest waterfall in Iceland, its color comes from glacial meltwater flowing over dark volcanic rock.

As you continue along the South Coast, the scenery opens into farmland, mountains, and glacier views on clear days.

Your final stop is Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. In summer, the path behind the falls is often open, while winter conditions may close it due to ice.

By evening, you'll pass through Vik and continue to Kirkjubaejarklaustur, a small village on the edge of Iceland's lava fields, where you'll spend the night. Its quiet countryside setting offers a calm end to the day before continuing farther east.

Day 2

Day 2 - Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach, and Southeast Iceland

The second day of this Chinese-guided tour in Iceland brings you into one of the country’s most visually striking regions. The day is dedicated to glaciers and dramatic landscapes inside Vatnajokull National Park.

After breakfast, the journey continues deeper into Southeast Iceland. The drive takes about 1.5 hours, passing through volcanic landscapes and the vast scenery of Vatnajokull National Park.

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is located right next to the parking area, so access is easy with only a short walk on flat ground.

At the edge of the lagoon, you’ll see icebergs drifting across calm water in shades of white, blue, and crystal-clear gray. Some slowly rotate or crack apart as they move toward the ocean, constantly changing the landscape around you. The lagoon has also served as a filming location for James Bond, Tomb Raider, and Game of Thrones.

If you want an even closer look at the towering ice, an optional boat tour is available (May to September) at an additional cost. If you're lucky, you might even spot seals resting or swimming nearby.

Just across the road, Diamond Beach gives you a completely different experience. Chunks of glacier ice wash ashore onto black volcanic sand and catch the light like scattered glass. It is beautiful in any season and a perfect spot for a short, relaxed walk.

From there, you'll continue to Skaftafell in Vatnajokull National Park, known for its glacier views, mountain ridges, and lush forests.

If conditions allow, you’ll hike to Svartifoss Waterfall via a 45–60-minute round-trip trail with a moderate uphill climb. The reward is a striking waterfall framed by dark basalt columns. Good walking shoes are recommended, especially if the ground is damp.

In winter (October to April), this stop is replaced by a guided blue ice cave tour in the Vatnajokull Glacier. A certified glacier guide leads the experience, and all necessary glacier equipment is provided for safety and comfort.

If the weather permits, your Southeast Iceland tour ends at Fjadrargljufur, a 9,000-year-old canyon with steep moss-covered walls and a winding river. A well-marked trail provides safe access to multiple viewpoints, suitable for travelers of all fitness levels.

In the evening, you'll arrive at Adventure Hotel Geirland or a similar hotel in Kirkjubaejarklaustur, a peaceful countryside hotel surrounded by South Iceland's dramatic landscapes. Spend the night here and recharge for the adventures ahead.

Day 3

Day 3 - Katla Ice Cave and Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

The final day of your 3-day tour in Iceland begins with a hearty breakfast. You’ll cross the moss-covered Eldhraun Lava Field, formed by one of the largest lava eruptions ever recorded.

On the way back to Reykjavik, you’ll stop at the Katla Ice Cave (May to September). Unlike most glacier ice caves that close in summer, Katla is accessible year-round, making it a rare and valuable experience for summer visitors.

Reaching the cave involves a short walk of 10 to 25 minutes across the glacier surface. The terrain can include gentle slopes and occasional uneven sections, but it is manageable for travelers of all fitness levels. You will wear crampons, which help provide safe footing on the ice.

Inside, the ice cave reveals layers of deep blue ice streaked with bands of dark volcanic ash, the result of centuries of eruptions from Katla Volcano. Please note that the ice caves naturally shift over time, with new tunnels forming and melting each year, so every visit feels completely unique.

After the 3-hour ice caving tour, you continue to Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. This is one of Iceland’s most famous coastal landmarks, known for its black volcanic sand, basalt columns, and the Reynisdrangar Sea Stacks rising from the ocean.

The waves here are powerful and unpredictable, so following the safety guidance from your guide is important.

Next is Skogafoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s most famous cascades. Climb the staircase to the top for wide views of the South Coast, including Eyjafjallajokull Glacier, distant mountains, and the powerful river below. Local stories also tell of a hidden Viking treasure buried near the falls.

As you make your way back to Reykjavik, there are several scenic stops for photos and short breaks. You’ll enjoy one last chance to take in the waterfalls, lava fields, and glacier views that define this part of Iceland.

You'll return to Reykjavik between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM, wrapping up your 3-day Iceland adventure filled with waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches, and unforgettable scenery.
