Description

Combine sightseeing around the Golden Circle with hot spring bathing in the Secret Lagoon. This excellent day tour of essential Icelandic experiences can be conducted in one of ten languages.

Your tour starts at Reykjavík Terminal where you will meet up with your guide, or with a hotel pick up if you have chosen to be picked up from your accommodation. From Reykjavík Terminal we head out in the morning in a state-of-the-art bus; every passenger will get a tablet, a USB charger, access to Wifi, and an audio guide with which they can listen to commentary in one of ten languages (just be sure to bring your own earphones).

You will then set off to see Iceland’s three most famous sites, all along the Golden Circle. The first of these is Þingvellir National Park. It has its National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site status from its history; it was here that in 930 AD Icelanders founded a democratic assembly that would outlive every other, continuing today.

Þingvellir is also known for its geology. It sits directly between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, in the Mid-Atlantic Rift, and the tension between them tears open fissures throughout the landscapes, filled with crystal-clear spring water.

After Þingvellir, you will reach the Geysir Geothermal Area. This is home to many hot-springs and fumaroles, sat amongst brightly coloured earth, as well as two geysers. Geysir itself - after which all others are named - has been largely inactive in recent decades, but Strokkur still erupts water to heights that have been known to exceed forty metres.

While Geysir only used to go off a few times a day, Strokkur does so approximately every five minutes.

Gullfoss waterfall is the final site of the Golden Circle. A majestic feature, it is over thirty metres tall and awe-inspiringly powerful. You can admire it from many angles, including (in summer) one that sits right next to the cascade.

After enjoying all of these sites, and having lunch at either Gullfoss or Geysir’s cafe, you’ll head off to ease any tension from your day away in the Secret Lagoon in Fluðir.

This beautiful pool sits next to a seething geothermal area which feeds into it, complete with a miniature geyser you can watch erupt regularly. Its serene location, warmth and beauty make it perfect for bathing, rejuvenating mind, body and soul.

After an exciting day and relaxing evening, you’ll return to Reykjavík.

Don’t miss this brilliant day in Iceland. Check availability by choosing a date.
