Explore the depths beneath one of Iceland’s glittering glaciers and discover the fantastical interior of an ice cave with this exciting tour. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who would like to delve into the captivating ice caps that dominate the South Coast of Iceland and makes for a fantastic addition to any road trip.

Not far from the iconic black beach Reynisfjara, you will set off on your adventure from the charming coastal village Vík. You will be picked up in an impressive Super Jeep and shuttled to the glacier tongue, Kötlujökull which is a part of Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland's fourth largest ice cap.

Beneath this glacier sits the volcano, Katla, known to be one of the more active volcanoes in Iceland. Fear not, however; the chances of an eruption are minimal and, besides, the mountains would be evacuated long in advance of any volcanic activity.

As you travel, you can enjoy a wealth of different landscapes; rugged coastlines, glittering ice caps, distant mountainscapes… the list goes on! Throughout your short journey, your highly-knowledgeable guide will be sure to teach you about the various natural features, as well as telling you tales from Icelandic folklore.

You will take a fun glacier walk over the glacier with your certified and experienced glacier guide before reaching the cave itself. Once you arrive at the entrance to the ice cave, you will unload from the super jeep and be equipped with a pair of crampons, a helmet and a headlamp—all you need to enter and explore this otherworldly attraction! As you step into the subterranean landscape, you are guaranteed to be awestruck by the shocking electric blues and smooth endless tunnels that distinguish this rare natural phenomenon.

Every year ice caves are formed by meltwater in the summer sculpting passageways through the thick and ancient ice floes, so you are guaranteed a genuinely unique experience. No ice cave stays the same for very long; they are constantly evolving and their compelling dynamism, as well as their great beauty, is central to their appeal. This is one place that you will not want to forget your camera!

So don’t delay any longer! Hurry, and you too can secure your spot on this fantastic ice cave and enrich your South Coast experience. Check availability by choosing a date.

This was fantastic! It was surprising and breathtaking! It was relatively easy, so good for all ages. It was fascinating, and beautiful. I didn't realize that the Ice Caves only "last" for a few months! Our guide was no-nonsense, but informative and obviously knew a lot about the glacier. This has been such an amazing trip to do with teenagers! They have been super-into all of our tours and activities b/c they are all SO AMAZING!!

Amazing!

Helgi (guide) was great. Have to be fit enough to hike 10 min to/from glacier and climb sometimes narrow ice but far less strenuous than a glacier hike. Didn't get to see as much of the electric blue ice, but still a good tour with great views.

Our guide was great everything was in order and the trip went very smoothly. The only feedback I would give would be a bit of a better order of things to do based on the routes we would take from one point to another. We found we had to spend a lot of time with the map to see what would make sense. The only thing that could have been better was the rental car. The taillight would almost fall off whenever we closed the trunk or were on a gravel road. We noticed this before we left the car rental location but were told that it was the only car available. This might be because we chose a manual instead of automatic, and if that’s the case I would suggest removing that option from your side. Overall amazing trip and we will be back!

It was amazing, the guide was very friendly and with a lot of experience. He gave us plenty of time in the cave and around it to enjoy and take pictures. We will highly recommend this activity to others.

Visiting the ice cave with Troll was the best part of our trip with my friend. We felt safe the whole time with the driver driving on the monster truck. The views are unbelievable and the ice cave is just stunning. We had a lot of fun too because the guide told us many jokes and stories about the area. I recommend Troll Expeditions for any tour

We truly enjoyed this tour, even more surprised when there is a monster truck pick us up and it happened to be two of us only! We felt like VIP instantly. Our guide was funny and helpful, as I am such a city girl who cant hike totally :-) We enjoyed it, the cave was small but it is good enough for us already as it is only September and not winter. Our guide told us a trick, if we can see stars, most likely we can see northern lights, true enough, on our last day we saw stars as well as aurora at Budir~~~ Lovely experience, I will go back one day for Winter......
